MU are determined to sign a midfielder this summer. |
According to transfer expert David Ornstein, INEOS's owners proactively contacted Nottingham Forest early on to explore the possibility of signing Elliot Anderson. The 23-year-old has impressed both for his club and the England national team, making him a top priority for Manchester United, surpassing Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes.
Forest are reportedly willing to sell, but only if they receive a record fee for a Premier League midfielder. This record currently belongs to Florian Wirtz, who moved to Liverpool for £116 million. Some sources suggest Forest might demand as much as £120 million, although the real possibility is between £80 and £100 million.
However, that price is enough for MU to break the £89 million transfer record for Paul Pogba 10 years ago. Not only the transfer fee, Anderson's salary is also not low. The midfielder currently earns over £100,000 per week, meaning MU would have to make a significantly more attractive offer if they want to acquire Anderson.
In the event they fail to sign Anderson, MU still have backup options. Wharton are highly rated, but Crystal Palace would demand a very large fee. Tonali and Carlos Baleba are also on the list, but there is no clear progress yet.
The summer of 2026 promises to be a pivotal time for MU, not only in the transfer market but also on the coaching bench, as the board must decide the future of manager Michael Carrick. But for now, the Anderson deal could break all records at Old Trafford.
