"The golden chalk"

Having dedicated nearly three decades to teaching, teacher Nguyen Thi Oanh of An Thinh Primary School in Mau A commune has not only tirelessly worked with chalk and blackboards but has also quietly written a beautiful story of perseverance, love for her profession, and devotion to her students.

Born and raised in Mau A town, Van Yen district (formerly), Nguyen Thi Oanh harbored a dream of becoming a teacher from a young age. In 1996, after graduating from the Primary Education program at Yen Bai Teacher Training High School, she returned to her hometown to work at An Thinh Primary School.

Having dedicated nearly 30 years to the school, Ms. Oanh is always remembered by her colleagues and students for her petite figure, gentle voice, and passionate dedication. For her, each lesson is not only about imparting knowledge but also about teaching ethics and lifestyle. Ms. Oanh shared: "Standing on the podium is my greatest happiness. A teacher should not only impart knowledge but also be a role model for students to follow."

Whether as the Head of the Youth Union, Deputy Team Leader, Head of the Subject Department, or Homeroom Teacher, she has always excelled in her duties. Her colleagues admire her for her strong professional skills, dedication, and eager-to-learn attitude. For each lesson, she prepares thoroughly, constantly innovating teaching methods, connecting lessons to real-world situations to make them easy for students to understand, and fostering their initiative and creativity. As a result, for many years, the class she is in charge of has consistently led in competitions, with many students winning top prizes in contests such as "Young Minds," "Vietnamese Language Champion," and "All-Round Talent Champion."

Looking solely at her professional achievements, few would know that behind teacher Oanh's gentle smile lies a story of unwavering resilience. In 2013, a sudden tragedy struck when her husband was involved in a serious traffic accident, suffering a traumatic brain injury and becoming dependent on her for a long period. From then on, the family faced its most difficult time. She was the sole breadwinner , caring for her ailing husband and raising two young children. In 2022, her husband passed away. This immense loss seemed capable of crushing this small woman, but she quietly continued on. On the podium, she enthusiastically taught, showing care and concern for each student. For her, teaching is not just a job, but also a source of emotional support that helps her overcome life's difficulties. It is this love and silent sacrifice that has nurtured her two children to adulthood. Her eldest daughter passed the entrance exam to a teacher training university and is currently working in Hanoi. The child continued to do well in secondary school.

Ms. Oanh is also a dedicated colleague, always ready to share her experience and support everyone.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Ha, a teacher at An Thinh Primary School, said: “In her professional work, Ms. Oanh is always responsible, enthusiastic, and ready to help her colleagues. As the head of the subject department, she regularly observes lessons, provides feedback, and shares experiences to improve the quality of teaching.”

To her students, she is approachable and gentle, yet also very strict. Tran Bao Nam, a student in class 5A4, shared: “Ms. Oanh teaches us in a very easy-to-understand way and always cares about each student. She not only teaches us knowledge but also teaches us how to live well, be well-behaved, and study according to President Ho Chi Minh's teachings.” These simple words are perhaps the greatest reward for a teacher.

Evaluating teacher Nguyen Thi Oanh, Mr. Doan Van Cuong - Party Secretary and Principal of An Thinh Primary School, commented: “Comrade Nguyen Thi Oanh is always dedicated to her work, has good professional skills, a high sense of responsibility, and has made many important contributions to improving the quality of education at the school. She deserves to be a typical example in studying and following the thoughts, morals, and style of Ho Chi Minh .”

With her tireless efforts over the years, teacher Nguyen Thi Oanh has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level" in the school years 2017-2018, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024, and received a certificate of commendation from the Director of the Department of Education and Training for two consecutive years; in 2024, she was awarded the title "Golden Chalk" by the People's Committee of Van Yen District (formerly). These awards are well-deserved recognition for a long journey of a teacher who has dedicated her heart and soul to the profession.

The story of teacher Nguyen Thi Oanh is not only about a dedicated educator but also a testament to the power of perseverance and love for the profession. For her, learning and following the ethics and style of Ho Chi Minh is not just about words, but about her way of life, her teaching methods, and her daily dedication. And from that, her love for the profession continues to burn brightly, warming the dreams of generations of students.
