Vietnam wins 9 gold medals.

On today's competition day (May 7th) at the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation won 9 gold medals. Five of them came from martial arts (karate, vovinam, Ju Jitsu); the women's basketball team won a historic gold medal; and swimmer Pham Thanh Bao broke the SEA Games record in the 100m breaststroke.

8:05 AM: GOOD NEWS ARRIVES EARLY! PHAM TIEN SAN WINS THE FIRST GOLD MEDAL.

Athlete Pham Tien San finished first in the Duathlon competition (two combined events, running and cycling), winning the gold medal. Thus, he successfully defended his SEA Games gold medal.

9:00 AM Sports such as swimming, basketball, karate, Vovinam, and mountain biking begin.

Starting at 9 a.m., Vietnamese swimmers competed in the qualifying rounds of the following events: men's 50m backstroke, women's 50m backstroke, men's 50m freestyle, women's 200m freestyle, and men's 100m breaststroke. The Vietnamese men's and women's basketball teams prepared for the semi-finals of the 3x3 event, facing Cambodia and Indonesia respectively.

9:05: In the first heat of the men's 50m backstroke, Singapore's Quah Zheng Wen finished first.

9:08: In the men's 50m backstroke, heat 2, Filipino swimmer Jacinto finished first. Vietnamese swimmer Mai Tran Tuan Anh finished fourth.

9:14: In the first heat of the women's 50m backstroke qualifying round, Philippine swimmer Masniari finished first. Vietnamese swimmer Le Quynh Nhu finished fourth.

9:17: In the second heat of the women's 50m backstroke qualifying round, Singapore's Faith Khoo finished first. Vietnam's Pham Thi Van finished sixth.

9:28: Vietnamese Vovinam team advances to semi-finals and finals.

In the women's 60kg vovinam sparring semi-final, athlete Do Phuong Thao overwhelmingly defeated Myanmar's Hnin Nandar Oo with a score of 10-0 to advance to the final. Earlier, Nguyen Thanh Liem defeated Eh Ammarin Phouthong (Cambodia) to reach the semi-final of the men's 60kg event. In the semi-final, Thanh Liem will face Eh Ammarin Phouthong (Laos).

9:33: Vietnamese swimmer qualifies for the men's 50m freestyle final.

Swimmer Jeremie Loic Nino Luong finished third among the eight best-performing athletes in the men's 50m freestyle qualifying round, thus securing a place in the final this afternoon. He is a Vietnamese-French athlete (father is French, mother is Vietnamese), standing at 1.95m tall. In this event, Singaporean swimmer Jonathan Tan broke the SEA Games record with a time of 21.91 seconds. The previous record was 21.93 seconds.

9:45: The Vietnamese women's basketball team has reached the final!

In the women's 3x3 basketball semi-finals, the Vietnamese women's team defeated Indonesia 21-17 to advance to the final.

9:48: Pham Thanh Bao qualifies for the men's 100m breaststroke final.

In the men's 100m breaststroke qualifying round, Vietnamese swimmer Pham Thanh Bao finished second, securing a place in the final. He finished behind Singaporean swimmer Nicholas.

9:50: 14-year-old swimmer Nguyen Thuy Hien advances to the women's 200m freestyle final.

Nguyen Thuy Hien, the youngest athlete in the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 32nd SEA Games, qualified for the women's 200m freestyle final. Thuy Hien ranked fourth among the eight swimmers with the best results.

9:58 AM: VIETNAM'S FIRST SILVER MEDAL ON MAY 7TH!

Athlete Nguyen Thi Phuong Trinh won a silver medal in the women's individual duathlon (two combined events - running and cycling), bringing home the first silver medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation on May 7th.

10:05: SILVER MEDAL FOR VIETNAMESE VOVINAM!

The pair of athletes Nguyen Truong Tho and Do Ly Minh Toan scored 267 points, winning the Silver medal in the men's doubles machete Vovinam event. The Gold medal went to Chanthasida and Piengpanya (Laos) with 270 points. Cambodia and Myanmar won the Bronze medal.

This is the second silver medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation today.

10:40 Vietnamese Pencak Silat team wins 2 bronze medals.

In Pencak Silat, in the women's tunggal semi-final, martial artist Vuong Thi Binh finished second with 9.915 points, behind the Malaysian athlete (9.960 points), thus winning the bronze medal. In the men's tunggal event, martial artist Pham Hai Tien also lost in the semi-final, winning the bronze medal.

11:05: VOVINAM WINS ANOTHER SILVER MEDAL!

In the mixed team basic technique final, the six athletes Le Duc Duy, Nguyen Hoang Du, Huynh Khac Nguyen, Lam Thi Loi, Mai Thi Kim Thuy, and Nguyen Thi Hoai Nuong scored 266 points, winning the silver medal. With 270 points, the host team Cambodia won the gold medal.



11:10 Vietnam's men's 3x3 basketball team eliminated in the semi-finals.

Despite dominating for most of the 3x3 men's basketball semi-final, the Vietnamese team suffered a heartbreaking 19-21 defeat against host nation Cambodia. In the bronze medal match, Vietnam will face Thailand.

In the vovinam competition, in the men's 60kg sparring semi-final, martial artist Nguyen Thanh Liem dominated and defeated Anathasak Souliyavong (Laos) with a score of 10-0 to secure a place in the gold medal final.

12:10 Vietnamese men's 3x3 basketball team fails to win medal.

After a heartbreaking loss to Cambodia in the semi-finals, the Vietnamese men's 3x3 basketball team continued their losing streak by defeating Thailand 13-21 in the bronze medal match.

12:40 VIETNAMESE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM WINS GOLD MEDAL, MAKING HISTORY!

Defeating their Philippine opponents in the final with a score of 21-16, the Vietnamese women's basketball team brilliantly won the gold medal in the 3x3 event. Notably, this is the first gold medal for Vietnamese basketball in its history of participating in the SEA Games.

14:00 Vietnamese Karate has 3 fighters who have reached the finals.

The Vietnamese Karate team has a great opportunity to win a gold medal, with three fighters qualifying for the finals: Nguyen Thi Ngoan (women's kumite under 61kg), Dinh Thi Huong (women's kumite under 68kg), and Hoang Thi My Tam (women's kumite under 55kg).

14:30 NINTH GOLD MEDAL FOR THE VIETNAMESE SPORTS TEAM!

Vietnamese martial artist Hoang Thi My Tam defeated her opponent Agung (Indonesia) with a score of 4-3 in the women's under 55kg kumite final, bringing home the third gold medal of the day (May 7) for the Vietnamese sports delegation.

14:40 Karate and Pencak Silat win 3 Bronze medals.

In karate, men's 60kg kumite, Chu Van Duc won a bronze medal after defeating a Thai fighter. In women's under 61kg kumite, Nguyen Thi Ngoan added another bronze medal to her tally after overcoming her Indonesian opponent with a score of 9-1. In Pencak Silat, men's Gandalf, the pair of Dao Duc Hung and Vo Binh Phuoc won a bronze medal with 9,880 points.

14:45 Vietnamese Vovinam team wins silver medal.

Vovinam martial artists Nguyen Van Tien and Bui Hung Cuong won the silver medal in the men's triples paired martial arts event with 267 points, 3 points less than the Myanmar martial artists.

14:50 VIETNAMESE KARATE CONTINUES TO WIN GOLD!

Karate fighter Dinh Thi Huong won the fourth gold medal for the Vietnamese Karate team at the 32nd SEA Games in the women's 68kg kumite event.

In the women's singles petanque semi-final, Thai Thi Hong Thoa defeated her Malaysian opponent Nur Yazit with a score of 13-8 to advance to the gold medal match against a Thai athlete.

15:30 Vietnamese Vovinam team wins another silver medal.

Four athletes, Lam Thi Thuy My, Mai Thi Kim Thuy, Hoang Thi Diem My, and Huynh Thi Dieu Thao, won another silver medal for the Vietnamese Vovinam team with their women's team sword performance, scoring 267 points, placing them behind host country Cambodia (270 points).

15:40 FIFTH GOLD MEDAL FROM JU JITSU!

Vietnamese judoka Dao Hong Son successfully defended his SEA Games gold medal in Ju Jitsu (men's Ne Waza NOGI 56kg category) in a dramatic fashion. He won after 3 wins and 1 loss, only ahead of his closest competitor on tie-breaking criteria. This is the fifth gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation today.

15:50 VIETNAMESE SPORTS TEAM WINS 6 GOLD MEDALS, EQUALING YESTERDAY'S ACHIEVEMENT!

In Vovinam, athlete Do Phuong Thao won the women's 60kg category after defeating Thai fighter Kesinee Tabtrai with a score of 8-5 in the final, thereby winning the gold medal.



16:10 VOVINAM STANDS OUT, WINNING ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL!

Following in the footsteps of his teammate Do Phuong Thao, martial artist Nguyen Thanh Liem defeated his Filipino opponent Emmanuel Cantores with a score of 9-1 to win the gold medal in the men's 60kg Vovinam event.

16:30 The pétanque event brought home 1 silver medal.

Despite losing to her Thai opponent Sirion Sarachip in the final, Vietnamese pétanque athlete Thai Thi Hong Thoa won the silver medal for the Vietnamese team in the women's singles event.

At 18:20 , the swimming finals featuring Vietnamese swimmers are about to begin.

18:28: In the men's 50m freestyle final, the first and second places were both taken by athletes from Singapore. Swimmer Jeremie Loic Nino Luong (Vietnam) finished third, winning the bronze medal.

At 6:40 PM, in the women's 200m freestyle final, swimmer Nguyen Thi Thuy Hien did not make it into the medal-winning group. The top three positions went to Singapore and Thailand.

18:57 Fisherman Pham Thanh Bao Wins Gold Medal!

Swimmer Pham Thanh Bao finished first in the men's 100m breaststroke final with a time of 1 minute 0 seconds 97, breaking the SEA Games record (1 minute 01 seconds 17), bringing home the second gold medal for the Vietnamese swimming team.

19:30 VIETNAM WINS GOLD MEDAL IN MEN'S 4x200M RELAY!

Starting in lane 7, the four swimmers Kim Son, Quy Phuoc, Hung Nguyen, and Huy Hoang excelled, finishing first and winning the gold medal in the 4x200m relay. Consistently in the top three, Hung Nguyen surged ahead of his two direct competitors in the final heat, crossing the finish line first.
