On the morning of March 6th, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF), during her working visit to Vietnam.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Secretary-General of Francophonie back to Vietnam at a very special time, when Vietnam had just successfully held the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, a major political event for the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the important goals and directions for future development identified at the Congress, including strengthening the implementation of an independent, self-reliant, self-sufficient, peaceful, friendly, cooperative and developmental foreign policy; multilateralizing and diversifying foreign relations; and being a reliable partner and responsible member of the international community, including the Francophone Community.
Appreciating the contributions of the Secretary-General and the OIF in recent times to promoting cooperation for peace, security, and sustainable development in the world and in the Francophone space, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam values cooperation with Francophone countries and is committed to contributing to Francophone efforts in achieving the common goals of the Community.

The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the fact that the 20th Francophone Summit will be held in Cambodia, marking the second time it has been held in the Asia-Pacific region; expressed confidence that the Summit will be successfully organized, setting important directions for the future development of the Francophone Community; and affirmed Vietnam's readiness to cooperate and coordinate with the OIF and Cambodia to ensure the success of the Summit and to make concrete and substantive contributions to the Summit.
The Deputy Prime Minister put forward several proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation within the Francophone Community, as well as cooperation between Vietnam and Francophone countries in the coming period. These included proposals to continue focusing on areas such as training and teaching French and in French, economic cooperation, promoting employment opportunities for youth and women, sustainable cooperation, and ensuring food security. He also emphasized that Francophone cooperation needs to be further extended to localities and regions.

The Secretary-General of Francophonie expressed her pleasure at returning to Vietnam, a country that has always impressed her with its dynamic development. Highly appreciating Vietnam's great achievements in both domestic and foreign affairs, and in caring for the well-being of its people, the Secretary-General affirmed that Vietnam has left a deep impression and is a source of pride for the Francophone Community and international friends regarding its economic and social development and improved living standards. The Secretary-General of Francophonie expressed her appreciation for Vietnam's role, position, and responsible and positive contributions to the Francophone Community and expressed her honor that the OIF continues to hold an important position in Vietnam's multilateral foreign policy.
Affirming Vietnam's key role as a Francophone power in the region, the Secretary-General of Francophonie expressed his hope that Vietnam would continue to make positive contributions and propose concrete initiatives within the framework of the 20th Francophone Summit in Cambodia in November 2026 to help disseminate its valuable experiences within the Francophone Community in ensuring peace, stability, and national development.
