In 2024, the global economy faced numerous unpredictable changes, from escalating geopolitical conflicts in various regions to instability in the shipping market due to the Red Sea crisis and the risk of supply chain disruptions.
This context presents numerous challenges for businesses, especially in the maritime sector. However, with the spirit of "Overcoming challenges, reaching further," VIMC has demonstrated strong resilience and adaptability, achieving impressive business results. Key indicators such as sea transport volume, cargo throughput at ports, revenue, and profit all exceeded the set targets.
Port operations continue to be a solid pillar in VIMC's business landscape, with cargo throughput reaching 145.3 million tons, exceeding the 2024 plan by 17%, affirming VIMC's leading position in the industry.
Notably, joint venture ports such as CMIT and SSIT recorded outstanding growth compared to the national average. The ports of Da Nang , Quy Nhon, SSIT, and CMIT also continuously welcomed new container service routes, contributing to increased throughput and revenue.
Despite a decline in fleet capacity due to restructuring, the company's maritime transport volume was compensated for and exceeded the initial plan by boosting charter activities in various forms and actively implementing multiple voyage charter contracts (COAs). By the end of 2024, VIMC's maritime transport volume reached 19.4 million tons, exceeding the target by 17%.
To achieve these results, VIMC has demonstrated keenness in monitoring and adjusting its business strategy according to market fluctuations, helping to maintain operational efficiency even when facing numerous challenges regarding tariffs and operating costs.
In addition, VIMC has optimized its existing fleet, while also rationally liquidating old vessels and investing in new ones, taking advantage of market opportunities. As a result, the fleet is always maintained in optimal operating condition, significantly contributing to increased revenue and profits.
2024 also marked significant progress in investment and the building of strategic alliances to enhance competitiveness.
The Lach Huyen Port Container Terminals 3 and 4 project has completed negotiations and signed a cooperation agreement with MSC/TIL, laying the groundwork for stronger future development. The Can Gio International Transshipment Port project has also made positive progress with the signing of a joint venture agreement (JVA), establishing the foundation for the development of an international cargo transshipment center and enhancing Vietnam's position on the regional maritime map.
Furthermore, VIMC has vigorously implemented improvement initiatives, with 2,300 initiatives successfully applied in 2024, generating an estimated benefit of nearly VND 52 billion. The standardization of 32 SOPs in the areas of governance, operations, and customer service has significantly improved operational efficiency and enhanced service quality. This forms a solid foundation for VIMC to move into the digital era.
Understanding that people are the core element of sustainable success, VIMC has intensified its efforts in training and developing human resources. Internal training courses and international training programs are widely implemented, helping to enhance the professional capacity and skills of its staff. This not only improves the quality of its staff but also encourages a spirit of unity, commitment, and dedication among employees towards the development of the Corporation.
At the end of 2024, VIMC exceeded its targets in both revenue and profit. Consolidated revenue reached VND 18,202 billion (135% of the 2024 plan), of which the parent company's revenue reached VND 3,039 billion (126% of the 2024 plan). VIMC's total profit reached VND 4,940 billion (137% of the 2024 plan), an increase of 192% compared to the same period in 2023.
These achievements have been recognized by prestigious ranking organizations. VIMC continues to hold the top spot in the Top 10 most reputable logistics companies in the freight transport sector for two consecutive years. Notably, for the first time, VIMC was honored as one of the Top 10 Golden Star Enterprises of Vietnam in 2024. This is well-deserved recognition for the efforts of the leadership team and all employees.
With the achievements in 2024, VIMC has laid a solid foundation for a new phase of development, especially in preparation for its 30th anniversary (April 29, 1995 - April 29, 2025). With the slogan "Overcoming challenges, reaching further - Entering a new era," VIMC not only affirms its position in Vietnam's maritime industry but also aims to become one of the leading maritime corporations in the region.
