VinBrain launches DrAid™ EndoAI

Báo Kinh tế và Đô thịBáo Kinh tế và Đô thị04/12/2024

DrAid™ EndoAI is the result of close collaboration between VinBrain and the Institute for Gastroenterology and Hepatology Research & Training. The solution is developed on a big data platform, including nearly 500,000 real-world endoscopic images labeled by leading endoscopists, ensuring quality in training AI models.

Accordingly, DrAid™ EndoAI is one of the very few comprehensive AI solutions for endoscopy developed by a Vietnamese medical technology company, capable of detecting and warning of various gastrointestinal lesions on a single platform.

Specifically, DrAid™ EndoAI is capable of detecting five types of lesions in both the upper and lower gastrointestinal tracts, and provides immediate audible alerts when signs of cancer are detected. With an accuracy rate of up to 95.9%, this solution promises to shape the competitive advantage of Vietnamese products against foreign products currently available in the domestic market.

DrAid™ EndoAI has received many positive reviews from doctors.
DrAid™ EndoAI has received many positive reviews from doctors.

In fact, after only 2 months, DrAid™ EndoAI has been successfully tested in its initial stages at Hoang Long Multi-Specialty Clinic ( Hanoi ), and the effectiveness of many features has been confirmed through feedback from the doctors there, including:

- Detect and classify 5 types of upper and lower gastrointestinal tract lesions in real time.

- Real-time audio alerts and marking of malignant lesions.

- Automatically records the entire endoscopy process and captures images of the lesion.

- Automatically generate reports with images after each endoscopy procedure.

One of the standout features of DrAid™ EndoAI is its ability to automatically generate reports with images after each endoscopy procedure.
One of the standout features of DrAid™ EndoAI is its ability to automatically generate reports with images after each endoscopy procedure.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Hang - Director of the Endoscopy Center at Hanoi Medical University Hospital, gastrointestinal cancers, including stomach cancer, colon cancer, and esophageal cancer, account for a large proportion of malignant diseases in Vietnam.

According to a report conducted in Ho Chi Minh City, up to 64.5% of patients with advanced-stage stomach cancer had not had lesions detected during endoscopy at other facilities within the previous three years. This fact is a real wake-up call regarding the missed lesions in gastrointestinal endoscopy. The number of patients undergoing endoscopy each day at medical facilities is enormous, while the endoscopist workforce only meets 5-10% of the actual demand.

Associate Professor, Doctor Dao Viet Hang also noted that one of the key potential solutions is the application of AI technology to endoscopy. This is precisely why an "all-in-one" system integrating multiple algorithms into a single system usable for both the upper and lower digestive tracts will help address the problem of missed lesions. Unlike humans, the AI in DrAid™ EndoAI is not affected by work pressure or subjective factors. The system can provide objective and accurate assessments based entirely on data, minimizing the risk of missing lesions. As a result, patients will be diagnosed early and have a better chance of effective treatment.

Professor, Doctor Dao Van Long - Vice President of the Vietnam Gastroenterology Association, former Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital, and Chairman of the Founding Council of the Institute for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Biliary Research & Training, shared after using DrAid™ EndoAI for a period of time: “Currently, we are using 8 artificial intelligence software programs for endoscopy from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. Among them, DrAid™ EndoAI is one of the 3 best software programs we have ever used. There are some features that we highly appreciate, for example, all suspected malignant lesions are warned with text displayed on the screen and also with sound, helping doctors quickly identify this type of lesion.”

Mr. Truong Quoc Hung - CEO of VinBrain, further shared: " The VinBrain team is determined to launch a 'Make-in-Vietnam' AI software for endoscopy in the shortest possible time to maintain our pioneering position in AI applications for healthcare in the Vietnamese market."

The launch of DrAid™ EndoAI affirms VinBrain's position in developing advanced AI solutions for healthcare. Beyond platforms supporting clinical diagnostic imaging via X-ray, CT, and MRI scans, the expansion into endoscopy not only demonstrates the capabilities of its applied scientists but also reflects VinBrain's commitment to applying AI to address major healthcare challenges. This is a crucial part of VinBrain's long-term plan to build a comprehensive AI ecosystem for the healthcare industry, thereby improving the quality of services and healthcare for patients worldwide.
