Vingroup sells AI company to Qualcomm Group

(Dan Tri) - Vingroup has transferred all shares in MOVIAN AI Artificial Intelligence Research and Application Joint Stock Company to Qualcomm Group.

On April 1, Vingroup Corporation (stock code: VIC) announced that it had transferred all shares in Movian AI Artificial Intelligence Research and Application Joint Stock Company.

After the transfer, Movian AI Company is no longer a subsidiary of Vingroup. However, the transfer value was not disclosed.

This company was established in November 2024 and is headquartered at Symphony Office Building, Chu Huy Man Street, Vinhomes Riverside Urban Area, Phuc Loi Ward, Long Bien District, Hanoi City . The legal representative is Mr. Bui Hai Hung.

Previously, on October 30, 2024, Vingroup separated VinAI Artificial Intelligence Research and Application Joint Stock Company to establish a new subsidiary, Movian AI Company. Movian AI has a charter capital of VND 226,766 billion, Vingroup contributes 65% of the charter capital.

Following Vingroup’s announcement, Qualcomm Corporation also announced the acquisition of Movian AI. The corporation said the acquisition will enhance Qualcomm’s generative AI research and development capabilities and accelerate the creation of advanced AI solutions for products such as smartphones, PCs, software-defined vehicles, etc.

"Dr. Bui Hai Hung, founder and CEO of VinAI, will join Qualcomm," the group announced.

Qualcomm also stated that VinAI is currently a leading AI research company, famous for its expertise in generative AI, machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing.

The group expects that combining VinAI's advanced generative AI research and development capabilities with Qualcomm's decades of extensive R&D will expand the company's ability to accelerate extraordinary innovations.

“This acquisition underscores our commitment to dedicating the necessary resources to R&D, positioning us to be the driving force behind the next wave of AI innovation,” said Jilei Hou, senior vice president of engineering, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

About Dr. Bui Hai Hung, he has held important positions at Google DeepMind, Adobe Research and Nuance Natural Language Understanding Lab. He spent nearly a decade at the AI ​​Center, SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute).

Here, he participated in the CALO project (the largest AI project in history at the time of 2003 and the project that created Siri) as a leader of a multi-institutional research team in developing probabilistic inference technologies to understand user activities. During the period 2000-2003, he was a lecturer (assistant professor) of computer science at Curtin University.

At the end of 2024, Vingroup also sold VinBrain to Nvidia.

In early 2025, Vingroup continued to announce the establishment of two new companies: VinMotion Multi-purpose Robot Research, Development and Application Joint Stock Company and VinRobotics Multi-purpose Robot Research, Development and Application Joint Stock Company.

These two companies have a charter capital of 1,000 billion VND. Of which, Vingroup holds 51%, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong holds 39%, and his two sons, Pham Nhat Quan Anh and Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, hold 5% of the contributed capital, respectively.

In addition to Movian AI, Vingroup currently has many other subsidiaries in the fields of AI and science and technology such as VinMotion, VinBigData, VinRobotics, VinITIS, VinHMS, VinCSS, VinTech.
