The pickup truck fire in Lam Dong was caused by the driver setting it on fire.

On the afternoon of May 28th, Mr. Le Thai, Chief of Police of Duc Trong District ( Lam Dong Province ), stated that after investigation, the cause of the pickup truck explosion and subsequent fire was determined to be self-immolation by the driver. The deceased was Mr. Thai Sy D. (46 years old, residing in Lien Hiep Commune, Duc Trong District).

Many wedding guests were shocked to see the pickup truck explode and burst into flames.

According to the investigation, two weeks ago, Mr. D. had a family dispute, so his wife took their child to stay at her sister's house, Ms. HTX, in Lien Nghia town (Duc Trong district). Mr. D. repeatedly went to her house to ask to take the child back, but his wife and her sister refused, which angered him.

On May 28th, knowing that his wife and sister-in-law would be attending a wedding at a restaurant in Tan Hoi commune (Duc Trong district), Mr. D. prepared two cans of gasoline and put them in his pickup truck.

At approximately 11:00 AM on May 28th, a resident of Tan Hoi commune was driving a car carrying Ms. HTX (Mr. D.'s sister-in-law) to a restaurant for a wedding reception. As Ms. X. got out of the car to walk into the restaurant, Mr. D., driving a rented pickup truck with license plate 49C-312.42, hit her, sending her flying onto the hood. She was then taken by relatives to Lam Dong General Hospital for emergency treatment.

The pickup truck that Mr. D. rented was completely burned.

After hitting Ms. X., Mr. D. went into the cabin and used a lighter to ignite two cans of gasoline he had prepared in the vehicle, causing an explosion and fire. When residents and rescue forces arrived, the car doors were locked from the inside, making it impossible to open them to get Mr. D. out, and the pickup truck was engulfed in flames. As a result, Mr. D. died inside the vehicle's cabin.

On the afternoon of May 28th, authorities from Lam Dong province, in coordination with the Duc Trong District Police, arrived at Tan Hoi commune to examine the scene of the vehicle fire and cooperate with other forces in investigating the incident.
