The pickup truck fire in Lam Dong was caused by the driver setting himself on fire.

On the afternoon of May 28, Mr. Le Thai, Chief of Police of Duc Trong District ( Lam Dong ) said that after investigation, it was determined that the cause of the pickup truck exploding and then catching fire was due to the driver setting it on fire to commit suicide. The deceased was Mr. Thai Sy D. (46 years old, residing in Lien Hiep Commune, Duc Trong District).

Many wedding attendees were shocked to see a pickup truck explode and then catch fire.

According to the investigation, two weeks ago, Mr. D. had a family conflict so his wife took the child to her sister's house, Ms. HTX, in Lien Nghia town (Duc Trong district). Mr. D. came to the house many times to ask to take the child back but his wife and his wife's sister did not agree so he was angry.

On May 28, knowing that his wife and sister-in-law would attend a wedding at a restaurant in Tan Hoi commune (Duc Trong district), Mr. D. prepared 2 cans of gasoline and put them in the pickup truck.

At about 11:00 a.m. on May 28, a person from Tan Hoi commune drove a car carrying Ms. HTX (Mr. D.'s sister-in-law) to a restaurant to attend a wedding. When Ms. X. had just gotten out of the car to walk into the restaurant to attend the wedding, Mr. D. drove a pickup truck with license plate 49C-312.42 (Mr. D. rented a car) and hit Ms. X., causing her to fly onto the hood. Her relatives took her to Lam Dong General Hospital for emergency treatment.

The pickup truck rented by Mr. D. was burned down.

After hitting Ms. X., Mr. D. went into the cabin and used a lighter to ignite two cans of gasoline that he had prepared in the car, causing an explosion and fire in the car. When people and rescue forces arrived, the car door was locked from the inside and could not be opened to get D. out. The pickup truck caught fire fiercely. As a result, Mr. D. died in the car cabin.

On the afternoon of May 28, Lam Dong province authorities coordinated with Duc Trong district police to go to Tan Hoi commune to examine the scene of the car fire; and coordinated with other forces to investigate the incident.
