Happy first day of school!

From August 25th, over 509,000 students across the province returned to school, ending their summer vacation. With high determination, the provincial education sector has implemented many solutions to improve the quality of teaching and learning from the beginning of the year, striving to successfully achieve the set goals.

To prepare for the new school year, Ms. Hoang Thi Thuc's family in Minh Xuan ward bought their son a new bicycle to make it easier for him to get to school. She also bought him some new clothes, books, and school supplies. Ms. Thuc said: “I am very happy that the government will waive tuition fees for primary and secondary school students starting from the 2025-2026 school year. This will help reduce the burden at the beginning of each school year and create motivation to promote the improvement of educational quality.”

Before the start of the new school year, Ma Thi Doanh, a Mong ethnic girl from Xin Man commune, was very excited. Throughout the past nine years of schooling, Doanh has diligently studied and achieved the title of All-Round Excellent Student. In the 2024-2025 school year, she won second prize in the district-level excellent student competition in Literature and successfully passed the entrance exam to Friendship School T78. Doanh said: “In this new learning environment, I will try my best to study hard so that I can return to help my family and hometown.”

Present at Na Hang Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School on the first day of school, we witnessed a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere as students returned to school after the summer break. Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, the school principal, said: “The school organized cleaning and tidying of classrooms and welcomed students back on August 24th. On August 25th, we held a flag-raising ceremony and a meeting with teachers and students. For the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 490 students. Classes are well-organized, and the school organized a welcoming ceremony for new students and many meaningful activities to create a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere for excellent teaching and learning right from the start of the new school year.”

Ready for the new school year

Prior to the start of the school year, educational institutions mobilized staff to clean school premises and made thorough preparations for the new academic year; strictly adhering to the regulations and guidelines of the provincial Department of Education.

Schools have organized welcoming ceremonies for students from the former Ha Giang province whose parents have moved to the new Tuyen Quang Provincial Administrative Center. Ms. Tran Thi Van, Deputy Principal of Phan Thiet Primary School in Minh Xuan ward, said: “For the 2025-2026 school year, the school has welcomed over 50 students from the former Ha Giang province. They have been assigned to various classes. In the first few days at school, teachers and classmates have shown care and encouragement to create a warm and familiar atmosphere, helping the students quickly adapt to the new environment and feel secure, striving to excel in their studies and personal development.”

Recently, in Thanh Thuy commune, the Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to launch the Thanh Thuy Primary and Secondary Boarding School construction project. This is a pilot project among 16 boarding school projects being implemented in the province's border communes according to the Politburo 's policy, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025). The project has a total investment of over 211 billion VND. The building will be constructed on an area of ​​approximately 3 hectares in Na Thai village, Thanh Thuy commune, and will include 31 classrooms, 15 subject rooms, 1 library; 25 administrative offices, 198 dormitory rooms for students and teachers, along with many auxiliary facilities such as: a multi-purpose hall, a cultural activity center, a kitchen and dining hall, toilets and bathrooms for students, a football field, etc.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Quynh, Principal of Thanh Thuy Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, said: “According to the plan, this project will be completed and put into use in 2026. Currently, there are over 2,500 primary and secondary school students in Thanh Thuy commune, of which nearly 50% are benefiting from the policy and boarding at the schools.”

This school year, students in grades 1, 9, and 12 started school on August 18, 2025, while students in the remaining grades started school a week later (August 25, 2025). On the first day of school, schools organized beneficial and meaningful activities…

According to the Department of Education and Training, for the 2025-2026 school year, the entire province will have more than 17,000 groups and classes with over 509,000 students at all levels from preschool to high school. According to the plan, schools will simultaneously hold their opening ceremonies on September 5th, 2025. The education sector is paying close attention to preparing the necessary infrastructure and arranging the teaching staff, aiming for a successful new school year.
