Visiting the cozy little home of Major Nguyen Manh Hung and Major Tran Thi Minh Vuong, we witnessed them preparing dinner for the whole family. The clinking of dishes, the aroma of food, and the laughter of their children created a rare peaceful and warm atmosphere after the stressful working hours of both soldiers.
It is known that, given their unique work schedules, arranging time for both of them is a difficult task. Mr. Hung is currently an employee of Production and Construction Team No. 7, 379th Economic -Defense Brigade (Military Region 2). His unit is stationed in a remote area, leaving him little time to care for his family. Meanwhile, Ms. Vuong is the weapons warehouse manager at Warehouse K79 (Logistics-Technical Department, Military Region 2). Although her work is near home, her job is equally busy with inventory checks, sorting, and maintenance of weapons and technical equipment.

Speaking to us about the challenges of balancing work and family, Mr. Hung shared: “My wife and I are both military personnel, so we understand and sympathize with the nature of each other's work. Although I'm not home often, whenever I come home, I always try to help my wife with everything, from housework to childcare, so she can have more time to rest.”
Continuing her husband's words, with a gentle smile, Mrs. Vuong confided: "Sometimes he's away on long business trips, and I'm left alone to manage both his duties at the unit and take care of the children. There are times when I feel lonely. But thinking about his mission, thinking about the responsibility of a soldier, I feel I need to be stronger. My husband and I always keep in touch by phone, talking regularly to update each other on the situation and encourage each other. It's these little things that keep our family warm and strong."
What's remarkable is that the children in this family also quickly developed a sense of independence and understanding towards their parents. Their eldest son is currently a third-year student at the Army Officer School 1, continuing the family tradition. Their second son, though only in 8th grade, is already very mature. He knows how to manage his studies, helps his mother with household chores, and is especially a supportive advisor to his mother whenever his father is away on business. Despite his young age, he understands the hardships and silent sacrifices of his parents and is always proud of his family.
Like the Hung and Vuong family, the family of Lieutenant Colonel Duong Quang Vinh, working at Brigade 543 (Military Region 2), and his wife, Major Le Thi Thuy, a statistics officer in the Mass Mobilization Department (Political Department, Military Region 2), also have their own "tactics" to keep the flame alive in their home. One of their "secrets" is making the most of their limited free time to spend with their children. Family dinners, rare weekend outings, or simply bedtime stories... all are precious moments for the couple to strengthen their bond and nurture love.
Lieutenant Colonel Duong Quang Vinh shared: “In the military, we are comrades. At home, we are also ‘comrades’ in building a happy home. The most important thing is understanding, sharing, and always putting the family's interests first. At home, I handle repairs and picking up the children when I have free time. My wife is mainly responsible for cooking, laundry, and helping the children with their studies. However, there is no rigid division of labor; we are always ready to support each other when the other is busy, without hesitation.”
Besides that, the couple always takes the time to listen to their children's thoughts and aspirations, helping them resolve academic difficulties and encouraging them to develop confidence. Thanks to the care, understanding, and proper guidance from their parents, the children have grown up in a healthy and loving environment. Their eldest son, Duong Quang Tien, is currently a first-year student at Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, steadily establishing himself in his academic pursuits. Their second daughter, Duong Thuy Tien, is in 9th grade at Van Lang Secondary School (Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province). Notably, in the 2024-2025 school year, Thuy Tien excelled, winning first prize in the provincial-level Literature competition for gifted students, bringing great pride to the family.
The stories of the military families of Hung and Vuong, or Vinh and Thuy, are not uncommon in the military environment. They are typical examples of thousands of other military families who are silently dedicating themselves day and night, fulfilling their professional duties while simultaneously nurturing family happiness and contributing to building a sustainable society where traditional values of love, sacrifice, and responsibility are always upheld.
