Visiting the cozy little house of Major Nguyen Manh Hung and Major Tran Thi Minh Vuong, we saw them preparing dinner together for the whole family. The clattering of bowls and chopsticks, the aroma of food mixed with the laughter of their children created a peaceful, warm atmosphere rarely seen after stressful working hours of both soldiers.

It is known that with a special work schedule, arranging a schedule for both is a difficult problem. Mr. Hung is currently an employee of the Production and Construction Team of Political Base No. 7, Economic-Defense Group 379 (Military Region 2). The unit is stationed in a remote area, leaving him little time to take care of his family. Meanwhile, Ms. Vuong is the keeper of the weapons warehouse at Warehouse K79 (Logistics-Technical Department, Military Region 2). Although working close to home, her work is no less busy with inventory, arrangement and preservation of weapons and technical equipment.

Talking to us about the challenges of balancing work and family, Mr. Hung shared: “My wife and I are both soldiers, so we both understand and sympathize with each other’s work. Although I don’t get to be home often, every time I come home, I always try to help my wife with everything, from housework to taking care of the children, so that she can have more time to rest.”

Continuing her husband's words, with a gentle smile, Ms. Vuong confided: "Many times when he is away on business trips, I am alone in taking care of the unit and the children, and sometimes I feel sad. But thinking about his mission, thinking about the responsibility of a soldier, I feel that I need to be stronger. My husband and I always maintain regular phone calls and conversations to update each other and encourage each other. It is those little things that help our family stay warm and strong."

What is special is that the children in the family also develop a sense of independence and understanding of their parents early on. The eldest son is currently a third-year student at the Army Officer School 1, continuing the family tradition. The second son, although only in 8th grade, is also very mature. He knows how to organize his studies, help his mother with housework and especially is always a "psychological advisor" for his mother whenever his father is away on business. Although he is still young, he understands the hardships and silent sacrifices of his parents and is always proud of his family.

Like the family of Mr. Hung and Ms. Vuong, the family of Lieutenant Colonel Duong Quang Vinh, working at Brigade 543 (Military Region 2) and his wife, Major Le Thi Thuy, a statistician at the Mass Affairs Department (Political Department, Military Region 2), also have their own "tactics" to keep the fire burning in their home. One of their "secrets" is to make the most of their limited free time to be close to their children. Dinners together, rare weekends when the whole family goes out, or simply bedtime stories... All are precious moments for the family to bond and nurture love.

Lieutenant Colonel Duong Quang Vinh shared: “In the army, we are comrades. At home, we are also “comrades” in building a home. The most important thing is understanding, sharing and always putting the family's interests first. At home, I am responsible for repairing furniture and picking up and dropping off the children when I have free time. My wife is mainly responsible for cooking, laundry and guiding the children in their studies. However, there is no rigid division, we are always ready to support each other when the other is busy, not hesitating about anything.”

In addition, the couple always spend time listening to their children's thoughts and aspirations, helping them solve problems in their studies and encouraging them to feel confident in their development. Thanks to the care, understanding and proper guidance from their parents, the children have grown up in a healthy, loving environment. Their eldest son, Duong Quang Tien, is currently a first-year student at Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, and is gradually asserting himself on the path of education. The second daughter, Duong Thuy Tien, is studying in grade 9 at Van Lang Secondary School (Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province). Notably, in the 2024-2025 school year, Thuy Tien won the first prize in the provincial Literature competition, bringing great pride to the family.

The story of the military families of Mr. Hung, Ms. Vuong or the families of Mr. Vinh, Ms. Thuy is not rare in the military environment. It is a typical image of thousands of other military families who are silently dedicating day and night, both completing professional tasks and striving to foster family happiness, contributing to building a sustainable society, where traditional values of love, sacrifice and responsibility are always promoted.
