The 2026 high school graduation exam will take place on June 11th and 12th, half a month earlier than in previous years. This year's exam maintains the same format and question-setting guidelines as directed by the Ministry of Education and Training ; candidates will take four subjects: two compulsory subjects (Mathematics and Literature) and two elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics and Law Education, Informatics, Technology) for graduation and university/college admission. In the 2025-2026 academic year, the province will have over 9,000 grade 12 students studying at more than 50 educational institutions.
Start practicing early.
From the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training has requested high schools, multi-level schools, and vocational education and continuing education centers in the province to urgently concretize solutions for directing and organizing review sessions that closely match the actual situation. The goal is to create a strong and substantive transformation in the quality of advanced and general education, improve the graduation rate and the average scores of all subjects in the province.

Following the general guidance from the Department of Education, schools have reviewed and developed detailed review matrices for the second semester based on the structure and format of the Ministry of Education and Training's exam and the required learning outcomes of the 2018 general education program. The review content is divided into clear topics, progressing from basic to advanced, focusing on systematizing key knowledge, practicing test-taking skills, and increasing the number of exam question types as directed by the Ministry of Education and Training. Schools have also proactively reviewed and adjusted their teaching and review plans scientifically , closely aligned with the abilities of each differentiated group of students.
For the 2025-2026 school year, Loc Binh High School will have 12 classes of 12th graders with a total of 425 students. The school's high school graduation exam preparation began in September 2025. Ms. Vi Minh Tam, Deputy Principal of Loc Binh High School, stated: Immediately after the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the school organized a registration process for students to choose their exam subjects, which served as the basis for developing a suitable review plan. Based on directives from higher authorities regarding graduation exam preparation, as well as documents from the Ministry and Department of Education and Training, and the school's plan, the subject departments have coordinated the review process. Graduation exam preparation is conducted concurrently with the completion of the main curriculum. The school arranges review sessions every afternoon and reorganizes classes according to students' registered exam subjects. To date, this process at the school has entered phase 2, with flexible adjustments to suit the reality and improve effectiveness.

The school's subject-specific team and teachers teaching 12th grade have conducted a comprehensive review and thorough analysis of students' academic performance (based on the first semester's final grades, the first quality assessment test scores, regular test scores, and actual classroom evaluations). Based on this, students were divided into three groups: high-risk, average, and advanced. Teachers developed separate lesson plans for each group, adhering to specific performance targets, helping students maximize their strengths in exam subjects, optimize their scores, and hone their test-taking skills.
Recognizing the 2026 high school graduation exam as a crucial milestone, the core team of teachers involved in exam preparation maintains a high sense of responsibility and enthusiasm, continuously updating and refining lesson plans in a timely manner. Teachers also actively apply information technology, using AI tools and supporting software to make each lesson more engaging and visually appealing, optimizing learning and motivating students during this crucial final stage. Furthermore, the teaching staff has proactively utilized the Learning Management System (LMS) and the industry's shared learning resource library in their teaching.
Given that students often lose points on questions requiring comprehensive thinking (true/false) and specific calculations (short answers), teachers focus on training students in analyzing questions and types of problems that demand logical thinking and a deep understanding of the underlying knowledge, rather than simply having them memorize theory. Grading and feedback are also done in detail, helping students identify common mistakes and learn from them promptly.
Furthermore, to ensure effective preparation for the high school graduation exam, schools have emphasized the responsibility of each student, teacher, and parent during the review period. School leaders have requested parents to sign commitments to cooperate in managing their children's self-study time at home and to encourage their children to attend school regularly. Subject teachers have signed quality commitment agreements with the school principal, ensuring the achievement of the assigned quality targets for the 2026 high school graduation exam.
Building confidence in students
One of the key objectives in preparing for the high school graduation exam is to ensure equitable access to education, providing maximum support for all students, with particular attention paid to students at risk of failing, ethnic minority students, and students from disadvantaged backgrounds in remote areas. Schools have also organized training for teachers on how to create exam questions, helping students become familiar with new question types such as true/false multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
In recent months, nearly 300 12th-grade students at Van Nham High School have been actively preparing for their graduation exams while simultaneously completing their regular curriculum. Currently, the review process at Van Nham High School is proceeding on schedule, comprehensively, and seriously.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Principal of Van Nham High School, said: "From the beginning of the school year, the school has proactively developed a scientific review plan, integrating compulsory and elective subjects. Besides concentrated review sessions, the school organizes remedial classes for students with weak foundational knowledge and at risk of failing. Regular mock exams are held to help students get used to exam pressure and to provide a basis for the school to accurately assess their abilities, thereby adjusting the remedial plan to suit each student. The school has also strengthened communication and guidance to help students choose subject combinations that match their abilities and goals, striving to help students achieve the highest possible results in the upcoming high school graduation exam."
In addition, teachers regularly monitor and evaluate students' learning outcomes to adjust teaching methods accordingly, helping students overcome weaknesses and confidently enter the exam. Besides focusing on academic expertise, schools also pay attention to psychological counseling and academic guidance, helping students maintain their spirits and reduce stress during the intense exam preparation period. This contributes to motivating students to focus on studying and achieve high results in the exam.
Hoang Trieu Minh Ngoc, a 12th-grade student at Trang Dinh High School, shared: "Before the important graduation exam, I couldn't help but feel anxious and pressured. However, I always received dedicated guidance and encouragement from my teachers, which helped me and my classmates have effective review sessions. Thanks to that, I have consolidated my knowledge, maintained a strong mindset, and gained more confidence to enter the upcoming exam with the determination to achieve the highest possible results."
Alongside consolidating knowledge, special attention is also paid to the care of students at ethnic boarding schools. Understanding the disadvantages faced by students living far from their families, teachers not only impart knowledge but also act as family members, regularly checking in, encouraging, and understanding the students' feelings to alleviate stress. During evening self-study sessions, the teaching staff is always ready to support them, promptly answering questions and guiding them on effective self-study methods. This closeness and genuine care provide a strong emotional support system, helping students feel secure in their studies and determined to achieve the best possible results in the upcoming exams.
Under the unified direction of the provincial education sector, coupled with the proactive and responsible spirit of each school, the preparation for the 2026 high school graduation exam is being implemented scientifically and realistically. This thorough preparation forms the foundation for strengthening the confidence of students and parents, contributing to affirming the quality of education in the province in the face of the innovative requirements of the 2026 high school graduation exam.
