Stay close to the border area.
Duong Xuong is one of four permanent militia checkpoints located in key areas of Ha Tien ward. These checkpoints operate 24/7, coordinating with border guards and police to monitor the political security situation, maintain social order and safety, control illegal entry and exit, and combat smuggling. Mr. Mac Vinh Nam, head of the Duong Xuong permanent militia checkpoint, said: “Despite the challenging working conditions, officers and soldiers always maintain strict duty schedules and coordinate with other forces to patrol and control the area. Each person is clearly aware of their responsibility in protecting the peace of the border area. Seeing the people feel secure in their work and have stable lives is the motivation for us to successfully complete our assigned tasks.”
Ha Tien is a strategically located area bordering Cambodia both by land and sea. This favorable condition for trade and economic development also brings with it complex security and order issues. The Military Command of Ha Tien Ward proactively advises the Ward Party Committee and People's Committee on the comprehensive implementation of military and national defense solutions. Combat readiness is maintained rigorously, and the planning system is adjusted and supplemented to closely reflect the local situation.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Loi, Commander of the Military Command of Ha Tien Ward, said that border areas always harbor complex factors, so the unit has determined that it must proactively grasp the situation from the grassroots level. The Military Command of the ward regularly coordinates with the police and border guards to exchange information, organize patrols and control the area, and promptly handle emerging situations, avoiding being caught off guard.
In just the first six months of 2026, military forces, police, local security and order guards, and border guards coordinated to organize 333 patrols, with over 2,000 participants. These patrols promptly detected and prevented violations and demonstrated the regular presence of functional forces in the area.
Close to the people, strong position.
Over the past period, the Military Command of Ha Tien Ward has focused on building a strong foundation of public support at the grassroots level. One of the tasks effectively implemented by the unit is the recruitment and conscription of citizens into the military. The Ward Military Command advised local leaders to strengthen the Military Service Council and coordinated with relevant departments and organizations to fully implement all stages of recruitment according to regulations. As a result, in 2026, the locality completed 100% of its conscription quota. The unit also received and facilitated the return of demobilized soldiers to their hometowns to stabilize their lives.
Captain Bui Cong Nhan, Deputy Political Officer of the Military Command of Ha Tien Ward, said: “To effectively carry out military recruitment, we must do a good job of propaganda and mobilization from the grassroots level. Military officers regularly meet with families and young people of military age to explain policies and guidelines, thereby creating consensus and a sense of responsibility towards the task of protecting the Fatherland.”
Simultaneously, the development of the militia and self-defense forces has always been a priority. In the first six months of 2026, the locality organized training for mobile militia units with 100% of the target number of participants, and training for permanent militia units ensured full compliance with the prescribed content and programs. All training sessions were conducted safely and with high quality.
In addition to its professional duties, the Ward Military Command also advises on and organizes civilian affairs and policies supporting the families of soldiers. During the 2026 Tet holiday (Lunar New Year), the unit coordinated with other forces to carry out many activities to care for the lives of the people, visiting and giving gifts to young people preparing to enlist. The "Effective Civilian Affairs" models implemented by the armed forces in the area continue to be effective, contributing to raising people's awareness of fulfilling their military obligations and participating in maintaining security and order at the grassroots level.
In border defense foreign relations, the Ward Military Command, in coordination with the police and border guard forces, maintains good relations with the government and armed forces of Kampong Trach district (Kingdom of Cambodia). Information exchange and coordinated handling of incidents along the border are carried out regularly, contributing to building a peaceful, friendly, and prosperous border.
