| Raising commercial goats helps Ms. Phan Thi Tuyet's family in Dong Tam resettlement area, Yen Lap village, Yen Thanh commune have a stable income. |
After 37 households moved to new residences, Yen Thanh commune authorities and organizations and unions focused on supporting people to develop their livelihoods and gradually restore the economy . People were supported with livestock and access to preferential loans to build their lives. From that companionship, many households proactively sought suitable development directions and made efforts to improve their labor and production.
Phan Thi Tuyet's family is one of the typical households. The landslide buried the entire fish pond and garden, leaving the family's economy almost empty-handed. To rebuild, she registered to participate in a commercial goat farming model under a project implemented by the commune government; at the same time, she planted peanuts and rice to ensure food and have more income. Her two children work in industrial zones in Hanoi , contributing to increasing the family's income. Thanks to the efforts of the members, after a year, Tuyet's family proactively registered to escape poverty.
With a smile, Ms. Phan Thi Tuyet shared: “With the income from raising livestock, growing crops and the money sent home by her children, our family life is now stable, we no longer have to worry about lack of food or clothing. I want to be removed from the list of poor households to affirm that I am strong enough to rise up and no longer depend on the State's support.”
Mr. Vang Seo Su's family has 8 members, of which 3 are in special care and cannot work. Although the landslide did not cause property damage, because it is located in a dangerous area, his family still had to urgently relocate to a new place. At the resettlement area, to quickly create a stable source of income, his 3 children went to work in industrial parks in Hanoi. He and his wife stayed home to develop agriculture . Thanks to the diligence and efforts of the family members, family life became more and more stable. Since then, Mr. Su proactively asked to be removed from the list of poor households.
Mr. Vang Seo Su shared: “Compared to the other 36 households, my family did not suffer any property damage and can still take care of our own food and clothing. Therefore, I would like to remove myself from the poor household list to give the State’s support to households in more difficult circumstances.”
Dong Tam resettlement area has 25 poor and near-poor households. Thanks to the timely attention and support of local authorities, socio-political organizations and the spirit of daring to think and dare to do of the people, life here has gradually improved. Up to now, 16 households have proactively registered and qualified to escape poverty. This is a welcome signal, clearly demonstrating the will to rise of people in landslide areas, and at the same time affirming the effectiveness of social security policies and sustainable poverty reduction programs in the locality.
Vice Chairman of Yen Thanh Commune People's Committee, Hoang Ngoc Khanh said: "The commune government always accompanies and creates conditions for people in the resettlement area to stabilize production and gradually increase their income. The fact that 16 households proactively registered to escape poverty is an encouraging result, demonstrating the spirit of self-reliance, not waiting or relying on support. In the coming time, the commune will continue to support households to develop their livelihoods, towards the goal of sustainable poverty reduction."
