Overcoming difficulties through self-reliance and self-improvement.
The ideological legacy left by President Ho Chi Minh , the brilliant leader of the Party and the nation, the great teacher of the Vietnamese revolution, has profound historical and contemporary significance.

In particular, these legacies retain their theoretical and practical value to this day. Within the scope of this article, we would like to mention one aspect of that vast legacy: Ho Chi Minh's thought, ethics, and style regarding self-reliance, self-strengthening, and the aspiration for a prosperous and happy nation.
This is because, looking back over the past period, especially 2023, despite facing numerous difficulties and challenges, our country has overcome them and is confidently moving towards 2024 with even greater expectations.
Looking back at 2023, the global and domestic situations presented many unusual and complex challenges, far exceeding predictions. Why did our economy continue to be a bright spot in the otherwise bleak global economic landscape? In other words, how did we overcome these "headwinds"?
First and foremost, it must be affirmed that this success is due to the wise, close, and timely leadership of the Party; the effective support and supervision of the National Assembly; the proactive, flexible, and decisive direction and management of the Government and the Prime Minister; the unity and close coordination of all levels, sectors, and localities; the synchronized involvement of the entire political system; and the efforts of the entire Party and the entire people.
That achievement clearly demonstrated the self-reliance and self-strengthening spirit of the entire nation, in accordance with Ho Chi Minh's ideology. This self-reliance and self-strengthening spirit means not depending on external forces, having an independent perspective in international relations; and clearly recognizing the power of patriotism and national spirit combined with pure internationalism.
It also involves proactively preparing all necessary conditions to adapt to difficulties and challenges, and devising appropriate and timely solutions to gradually overcome them.
In particular, the spirit of self-reliance and self-strengthening is also demonstrated through the emphasis on promoting the role and strength of the people, as Uncle Ho taught.
In Ho Chi Minh's thought, "the people" is the noblest category. He said: "In the sky, nothing is more precious than the people. In the world, nothing is stronger than the united force of the people." "If led skillfully, no matter how difficult or great the task, the people can accomplish it."
Amidst a complex and unpredictable global situation, and with many domestic challenges, the achievements we have made over the past year are truly something to be proud of.
Looking back at what we have faced, we understand even more deeply the words of Uncle Ho: "Nothing is difficult / Only fear of a lack of perseverance / Digging mountains and filling seas / With determination, anything can be achieved."
Upholding the tradition of great national unity.
From the very beginning of his journey to find a way to save the country, he harbored a great aspiration: independence for the Fatherland, freedom and happiness for his people. He affirmed: "I have only one desire, an ultimate desire, which is to see our country completely independent, our people completely free, and everyone having enough food and clothing, and everyone having access to education."
His wish has now become a reality. And not only that, today we are striving for an increasingly civilized and modern life, aiming to become a developed, high-income country by 2045, when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of our nation's founding.
Our country and our people have gone through countless difficulties and overcome numerous challenges to achieve the accomplishments we have today.
And on the path to national prosperity and happiness, there will certainly be many difficulties and challenges. Especially in today's era, facing the rapid development of the digital technology revolution.
Human intellect is achieving unprecedented feats in history every day and every hour. And every day and every hour, it brings about profound changes in the lives of all humankind.
Our nation, in addition to its tradition of patriotism and indomitability, possesses another strength that not every nation has: intelligence and creativity, and a tradition of valuing education…
This provides a solid foundation for our people to absorb the latest achievements of humanity, always thinking, innovating, and creating to shorten the path of development, and quickly bringing Vietnam to the ranks of the world's advanced countries.
Furthermore, national unity is a precious tradition that has always shone brightly and been promoted throughout the glorious history of nation-building and national defense of the Vietnamese people.
The 8th Plenum of the 13th Central Committee also clearly defined that, in the new development period, it is necessary to continue to promote the tradition of national unity, create social consensus, strongly awaken patriotism, self-reliance, national pride, faith, and the aspiration to contribute, thereby contributing to the successful achievement of the goal of Vietnam becoming a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030; and becoming a developed country with high income by 2045, following the socialist orientation.
Realizing the aspiration for prosperity.
Generally speaking, realizing the aspiration for a prosperous and happy nation according to Ho Chi Minh's thought requires building a democratic, progressive political system that truly serves the people, and developing a civilized and progressive economic, cultural, and social life with good moral values.
To achieve this, we must build a solid economic foundation, with a well-planned implementation strategy that garners the consensus of both the government and the people; maximize national resources, leverage external resources, and implement attractive policies to attract foreign investment. We must always base our decisions on the specific circumstances of the country, creatively applying theory to practice to formulate appropriate viewpoints and policies; and avoid dogmatism and rigid adherence to the experiences of other countries.
In a developing and interdependent world, national interests are the decisive factors for each nation to successfully participate in international relations and integrate internationally. Besides economic potential, the will for self-reliance and self-improvement, and the aspiration for development of the entire nation are the fundamental and core conditions for expanding cooperation and international integration.
Decades of reform under the Party's leadership have vividly demonstrated the will and aspirations for development of our nation. The achievements of the reform process are an important foundation that helps us consolidate our faith, determination, and efforts, and continue to promote the nation's path forward.
More than ever, it is necessary to strongly promote patriotism and national spirit, the will and aspirations for development of the entire nation as the driving force for development in the new development stage.
