A stunning goal in injury time broke the deadlock.
The dramatic match unfolded at SoFi Stadium (California, USA). Facing a resilient and disciplined South Africa, the Canadian players relentlessly pressed and created numerous opportunities, but unfortunately missed them all. Just when fans on both sides were anticipating a tense extra time period, a historic turning point occurred in the second minute of added time (90'+2).

From Alistair Johnston's long pass into the penalty area, the South African defender cleared the ball right into the path of Stephen Eustáquio. The Los Angeles FC midfielder controlled the ball neatly with his chest before unleashing a one-touch volley from outside the box. The ball flew powerfully and nestled into the bottom corner of goalkeeper Ronwen Williams' net.
A historic milestone for Canadian soccer.

Hero Stephen Eustáquio couldn't hide his happiness either: "We fought hard for each other like brothers. When the whole team is united, miracles happen. I am extremely happy with this goal."
On the opposite side, South Africa's coach Hugo Broos admitted his team's defeat was due to being inferior to their opponents. However, he still expressed pride in his players' fighting spirit in this year's tournament.
