Alp Toker, director of Internet monitoring company Netxblols, commented: this is one of X's longest disruptions and is quite similar to a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack targeting the social network's infrastructure.

Shortly after, X also admitted that the platform's service was interrupted. Elon Musk said: X's widespread network outage was due to a "large-scale cyber attack" behind it by a large organization.

“We don’t know exactly what happened but there was a massive cyber attack trying to take down system X with IP addresses originating from the Ukraine region,” he said.

Previously, in 2024, Elon Musk also said that X suffered a DDos cyber attack that led to the postponement of the dialogue between him and then Republican candidate Donal Trump.
