Hon Dat commune strives to achieve new rural standards by 2027.

On the afternoon of July 2nd, the People's Committee of Hon Dat commune (An Giang province) held a conference to implement the plan for the National Target Program and the orientation for the development of a new urban area in Hon Dat commune for the period 2026-2030; and to review the criteria for building new rural areas.

Vice Chairman of Hon Dat Commune People's Committee Vu Duc Thien presented the content at the meeting.

According to the plan, Hon Dat commune aims to reduce the average multidimensional poverty rate by 0.3-0.5% per year; increase the percentage of households using clean water from the centralized water supply system to over 95%; ensure 100% of households sort waste at source; build a centralized wastewater treatment model in densely populated areas; and modernize the public address system using information technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

Regarding economic development, Hon Dat is promoting the restructuring of the agricultural sector towards a green and circular approach; expanding the application of advanced production processes, developing OCOP products, supporting cooperatives in improving management capacity, and promoting value chain linkages and agricultural product consumption.

In the socio-cultural field, the commune focuses on investing in school facilities to meet national standards, upgrading the health station, building a standard library, and completing the Cultural and Sports Center; implementing electronic health records for 100% of the population and connecting to remote medical examination and treatment; and strengthening security and order through the installation of AI-powered smart camera systems on roads, gateways, and key areas.

According to the roadmap, in 2026 the commune will complete the planning, prepare infrastructure and clear the land; in 2027, it will strive to complete the criteria to be recognized as a new rural commune; in the period 2028 - 2030, the commune will continue to improve the quality of the criteria, gradually approaching the standards of a type V urban area.
