Specifically, the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline increased by 374 VND/liter, reaching 20,431 VND/liter; RON 95 gasoline increased by 273 VND/liter, reaching 21,019 VND/liter.

Similarly, oil prices were also adjusted upwards in this price adjustment period. Specifically, the price of 0.05S diesel increased by 488 VND/liter, reaching 19,243 VND/liter; kerosene increased by 410 VND/liter, reaching 19,244 VND/liter; and 180CST 3.5S fuel oil increased by 83 VND/kg, reaching 16,182 VND/kg.

During this price adjustment period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance did not allocate or utilize the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund for E5RON92 gasoline, RON95 gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and fuel oil.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the average price of refined petroleum products in the world between the price adjustment period of January 2, 2025 and the price adjustment period of January 9, 2025 is as follows: 83.360 USD/barrel for RON92 gasoline used to blend E5RON92 gasoline (an increase of 2.055 USD/barrel, equivalent to a 2.53% increase); 85.992 USD/barrel for RON95 gasoline (an increase of 1.387 USD/barrel, equivalent to a 1.64% increase); 90.308 USD/barrel for kerosene (an increase of 2.310 USD/barrel, equivalent to a 2.63% increase); 92.218 USD/barrel for 0.05S diesel oil (an increase of 2.740 USD/barrel, equivalent to a 3.06% increase). 455,206 USD/ton for 180CST 3.5S fuel oil (an increase of 2,736 USD/ton, equivalent to a 0.60% increase).

On the world market at 6:00 AM on January 9th, Brent crude oil prices fell by 89 cents, or 1.16%, to $76.23 per barrel. US WTI crude oil prices fell by 93 cents, or 1.25%, to $73.32 per barrel.

Oil prices fell today, weighed down by a significant increase in U.S. gasoline and diesel inventories over the past few weeks. Fuel inventories have risen as refineries continue to ramp up production. According to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, gasoline inventories rose by 6.3 million barrels to 237.7 million barrels in the week ending January 3rd, more than four times the 1.5 million barrel increase analysts had expected.

Inventories of refined products also increased by 6.1 million barrels to 128.9 million barrels, ten times the 600,000-barrel increase expected by analysts. In contrast to the increase in gasoline and refined product inventories, US crude oil inventories continued their weekly decline, falling by 959,000 barrels to 414.6 million barrels, more than five times the 184,000-barrel decrease expected by analysts.

Also putting pressure on oil prices is a stronger US dollar, making oil more expensive for holders of other currencies.

In the most recent price adjustment (January 2nd), the prices of all types of gasoline and diesel (except fuel oil) were increased by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance.

Specifically, the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline increased by 240 VND/liter, reaching 20,057 VND/liter; RON 95 gasoline increased by 199 VND/liter, reaching 20,746 VND/liter.

Diesel fuel 0.05S increased by 125 VND/liter, reaching 18,755 VND/liter; kerosene increased by 126 VND/liter, reaching 18,834 VND/liter; mazut 180CST 3.5S increased by 129 VND/kg, reaching 16,099 VND/kg.

During this price adjustment period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance did not allocate, contribute to, or utilize the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund for E5RON92 gasoline, RON95 gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and fuel oil.

The fuel price stabilization fund of some key enterprises still has a large positive balance due to many price adjustment periods not utilizing the fund. The fund balance at the end of Q2/2024 was VND 6,061 billion, a decrease of VND 18 billion compared to the previous quarter and the fifth consecutive quarter of decline. Compared to the end of 2023, this fund balance decreased by nearly VND 600 billion.
