Recognizing environmental protection as a condition for sustainable development, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (TKV) maintains a comprehensive set of solutions for environmental restoration after mining. In 2025 alone, TKV spent over 1,500 billion VND on environmental protection. In early Spring 2026, units within the Group planted over 163,000 trees, equivalent to more than 34 hectares, with nearly 19 hectares in Quang Ninh province.
Along with expanding green areas, units continue to invest in dust suppression misting systems, wastewater treatment facilities, environmental ponds, and greening routes. While previously environmental work mainly focused on addressing impacts arising from production, many units are now proactively restoring the landscape, reducing emissions, and building a greener production environment.
Over the years, the environmental greening efforts of Deo Nai - Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company have been closely linked to the task of restoring green areas affected by natural disasters. According to the company's statistics, the area of green trees affected by major storms in the past two years amounted to 582 hectares with approximately 800,000 trees, of which nearly 349 hectares suffered severe damage. To restore the environment, the company allocated over 30 billion VND for replanting trees and improving the landscape.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hiep, Deputy Head of the Investment - Environment Department of Deo Nai - Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company, said: “The company is focusing on restoring the affected green areas, while continuing to reforest the waste dumps and areas where mining has ended. The restored tree areas help stabilize the waste dump surface, limit erosion, and reduce dust dispersion during production.”

While the Deo Nai - Coc Sau area exemplifies environmental restoration at open-pit mines, the Cua Ong Coal Sorting Company demonstrates efforts to maintain a green environment within its production line. As a large-scale coal sorting and processing unit of TKV (Vietnam Coal Corporation), the company consistently invests in solutions for dust control, wastewater treatment, and landscape improvement, gradually building a green, clean, and safe production environment.
During the 2020-2025 period, the company implemented 10 environmental projects with a total budget of over 256 billion VND, achieving 109% of the plan. Notable projects include the investment in 9 high-pressure dust suppression misting systems in port areas, coal sorting and drying lines; the installation of 12 dust extraction points at conveyor belts; and the renovation of coal storage facilities, internal transport routes, and drainage systems. The company also recovered and recycled 100% of industrial wastewater for production purposes.
Alongside emission control, the company is promoting tree planting and landscape improvement. Over the past five years, the unit has planted approximately 67,000 trees of various types and more than 5,300 m² of flowers and ornamental plants. In 2025 alone, the number of newly planted trees is expected to reach 4,556, a tenfold increase compared to the previous year.
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Chuong, Director of Cua Ong Coal Sorting Company, the company integrates environmental protection with production right from the initial stages of equipment investment and facility renovation to operational organization. Doing it well from the root will create more long-term and sustainable results.
These efforts have brought about a noticeable change in the appearance of the production area. Many factory areas, ports, and internal roads have been renovated to be more presentable, and greenery is developing steadily. By 2025, the company aims to achieve 97/100 points according to TKV's "Bright - Green - Clean" environmental criteria.
From post-mining waste dumps to coastal processing plants, greenery is increasingly present in the coal industry's production space. This shows that greening mines is no longer a mere movement but has become a development requirement for the enterprise. As green areas continue to expand, the environment improves, and emission reduction solutions are implemented synchronously, the coal industry is gradually realizing its goal of sustainable development linked to environmental protection.
