- Over the past period, all levels of government, sectors, and people in the province have proactively implemented solutions to maintain rural environmental hygiene. This has gradually contributed to fulfilling the criteria for rural environment and landscape in the construction of new rural areas.
After years of effort and hard work, by the end of June 2025 (before the implementation of the two-tiered local government model), 109 out of 175 communes in the province had met the environmental criteria. The completion of these environmental criteria by these communes significantly contributes to building many rural areas in the province that are green, clean, beautiful, safe, and livable.

To ensure the continuous and consistent implementation of environmental protection work in general, including the step-by-step fulfillment of environmental criteria, the province has proactively implemented specific measures. On December 13, 2025, the Provincial People's Committee issued Directive No. 12 on strengthening environmental sanitation work in the province. This directive instructs departments, agencies, and the People's Committees of wards and communes in the province to strengthen leadership and guidance in maintaining environmental sanitation; focusing on implementing the contents and targets regarding the rate of collection and treatment of solid household waste… In addition, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 17 on January 21, 2026, on organizing the launching ceremony of the "Tree Planting Festival in memory of President Ho Chi Minh" and launching campaigns for rural road construction, irrigation, water supply, and environmental sanitation.
Following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, communes and wards have focused on implementation. Ms. Nong Thi Huyen Trang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cai Kinh commune, said: To ensure environmental sanitation, in February 2026, the People's Committee of the commune organized a ceremony to launch a general environmental sanitation campaign, initiating the emulation movement "Sunday for a bright, green, clean, and beautiful environment". As a result, the commune mobilized nearly 2,000 man-days to carry out environmental sanitation, clearing over 34 km of village roads and alleys; planting 2,500 new pearl string trees, 10 macadamia trees, and 800 acacia trees.
On December 29, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Decision No. 51 promulgating the national criteria for building new rural areas in the period 2026-2030 (effective from February 15, 2025). Among these criteria, the rural environment and landscape criteria include five indicators related to: waste collection and treatment; drainage and wastewater treatment; landscape, green, clean, beautiful, and safe spaces; water quality treatment, etc. Currently, ministries and agencies are finalizing guidelines, after which the People's Committees of provinces and cities will concretize the criteria to suit the actual conditions of their localities. |
Similarly, in Cai Kinh commune, in the early months of 2026, Chau Son commune proactively developed a plan to implement environmental protection measures. The commune focused on promoting awareness and encouraging residents to actively participate. Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, from Quang Hoa village, Chau Son commune, said: "Following the regulations of the commune and village, my family participates in general environmental sanitation twice a month. Besides sweeping village roads and alleys, my family and other households in the village also participate in dredging and clearing drainage ditches; caring for and trimming hedges and flowers; and proactively cleaning and maintaining hygiene around our homes."
Not only the people in Quang Hoa village, but also the people in other villages of Chau Son commune are actively participating in environmental protection. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Son commune, said: From the beginning of 2026 until now, the commune has mobilized nearly 1,700 man-hours of labor from the people to participate in environmental protection, road construction, irrigation, and tree care... This has contributed to consolidating the rural landscape to become greener, cleaner, and more beautiful, as well as gradually fulfilling the environmental criteria in building new rural areas.
Besides the two aforementioned communes, other communes and wards in the province have also developed plans and organized campaigns to protect the environment. In the first three months of 2026, communes and wards in the province mobilized over 200,000 man-hours of labor to participate in road construction, irrigation, and environmental sanitation. Through this effort, they swept, collected, and processed more than 1,500 cubic meters of soil, rocks, and waste in concentrated residential areas, irrigation canals, and public areas…
The achievements in environmental protection during the first months of the year will create momentum and make a significant contribution to the communes' gradual implementation of environmental and rural landscape criteria in the coming period. This will further strengthen and maintain a bright, green, clean, and beautiful environment and landscape in the area.
