Da Huoai district is focusing on building and developing a high-quality rice growing area in the province, thereby fully and effectively applying scientific and technical advancements, bringing benefits to producers and safety to consumers, while maintaining the stability and sustainability of the ecological environment.

Da Huoai District has 1,260.5 hectares of rice fields designated by the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee as a high-yield, high-quality rice growing area.  This area is planned by the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Huoai district, the locality cultivates over 13,900 hectares of rice annually, concentrated in the towns of Cat Tien, Gia Vien, Tien Hoang, Quang Ngai, Da Teh town, and An Nhon commune... The main rice varieties grown are OM3536, OM6162, OM4900, OM5451, and other fragrant rice varieties such as sticky rice and ST25. These are high-yielding, high-quality rice varieties with stable market demand.

Mr. Tran Quang Truong, Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department of Da Huoai District, said that to help farmers cultivate rice more effectively, the department has directed localities to develop high-quality rice production areas to increase production value, applying a closed-loop process from land preparation, planting, care, harvesting to product consumption; at the same time, promoting the production of rice in the same season and in the same crop cycle, associated with production according to VietGAP and organic standards, in order to increase value per unit area. In addition, the agricultural sector has intensified efforts to encourage farmers to collect rice straw from the fields to use as raw material for straw mushroom cultivation, which is then composted into organic fertilizer for various crops. Furthermore, farmers can be advised to use rice harvesting machines combined with straw chopping to spread evenly on the fields, then apply microorganisms to decompose the straw directly in the field to create organic fertilizer for rice cultivation, thereby helping farmers reduce the need for fertilizer during cultivation.

The district's agricultural sector is also strengthening its extension work to encourage farmers to change their practices to participate in high-quality, low-emission rice production by reducing the amount of rice seeds used in sowing. Farmers traditionally sow at a high density of 160-180 kg of rice seeds per hectare. This high sowing density makes the fields more susceptible to pests and diseases, leading to the overuse of chemical pesticides, which negatively impacts the environment and results in unsafe food products.

In addition, the locality has implemented many rice cultivation models applying the "1 must, 5 reductions" principle, incorporating many new scientific and technical advancements in rice cultivation, especially the more rational use of fertilizers, pesticides, and water compared to before. This has reduced environmental pollution, lowered production costs, increased rice yields, and thus increased profits for farmers. Specifically in 2025, Da Huoai district will conduct a demonstration of the new HG12 rice variety on a scale of 0.6 hectares at two locations in Gia Vien commune and Cat Tien town. Furthermore, Da Huoai district is promoting the implementation of concentrated rice production models, which have proven effective in the district's agricultural production. Not only have investment costs been reduced and the cultivation and harvesting processes been facilitated, but in concentrated rice production areas, 100% of the land is now used for tillage, transplanting, and harvesting machinery.

In particular, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee recently issued Decision No. 1015/QD-UBND approving the planning area for high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation in Lam Dong province. Accordingly, out of a total of 1,905.5 hectares approved as high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation planning areas throughout the province, Da Huoai district has 1,260.5 hectares. Specifically, An Nhon commune has 533 hectares, Duc Pho commune has 250 hectares, Da Teh town has 140 hectares, Tien Hoang commune has 94.4 hectares, Quang Tri commune has 74 hectares, Gia Vien commune has 68.8 hectares, Quang Ngai commune has 60 hectares, and Cat Tien town has 40.3 hectares.

According to the decision, the People's Committee of Da Huoai District is tasked with specifically defining the boundaries of the planned area in the field and strictly managing the approved high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation area; publicly disseminating information about the high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation area to relevant organizations and individuals; implementing policies to support and protect rice-growing land; investing in and building infrastructure, and applying modern science and technology to the high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation area as prescribed; promoting, encouraging, and guiding people to use high-yield, high-quality rice varieties and apply advanced technical and technological processes associated with sustainable production; and reporting the results of implementation to the Department of Agriculture and Environment annually.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is responsible for monitoring, guiding, and inspecting the implementation of high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation planning areas in the province according to regulations; and coordinating with localities to transfer high-yield, high-quality rice varieties and advanced farming solutions for sustainable production.
