The project includes two bidding packages. Package one is to build two 935 m long railway tunnels, implemented in 23 months by the joint venture of Ilsung Company - Deo Ca Group. Of which, the first tunnel is 620 m long, the second tunnel is 393 m long, 10 m wide, designed according to first-class railway tunnel standards. Package two of construction of bridges, railways, signal information and remaining works is carried out by the joint venture Ilsung - Railway Construction Corporation (RCC), and will be completed in 22 months.
Khe Net Pass is more than 10 km long, connecting Huong Hoa commune with Kim Hoa, has 43 dangerous curves, the maximum speed of the train through the pass is less than 30 km. Mr. Hoang Gia Khanh, General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation, said that the completed project will remove the "bottleneck" on the North-South railway, improve railway infrastructure, and increase speed. , shortening the train journey.
The national railway system passes through 34 provinces and cities with a total length of 3.143 km, of which the Thong Nhat railway is the 1.726 km long backbone. However, the quality of railway infrastructure is not consistent, capacity is limited, and poses a potential risk of traffic insecurity. The transport market share is therefore increasingly decreasing, not commensurate with the advantages of this method.
