Implementing the project to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Cao Bang province, thousands of poor households have received support to build new houses and repair existing ones. These spacious and safe houses have created motivation for families to work and produce with peace of mind, gradually rising out of poverty.

Just last year, the dilapidated one-story house was the home of Ms. Vi Thi Hang and her three children, residing in residential area 3 (Dong Khe town, Thach An district). As a single mother without a stable job, despite her best efforts, her income from odd jobs was barely enough to cover living expenses, and she never dared to dream of building a new house. Faced with the family's difficulties, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Khe town appealed to and mobilized organizations and individuals to donate 44 million VND and nearly 40 man-hours of labor to support the construction of a solidarity house. After two months of construction, before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, Ms. Hang's house was completed, covering an area of over 40 square meters and valued at over 70 million VND. With a new place to live, the family no longer has to live in constant fear during the rainy season, and Ms. Hang also has more motivation to work and raise her children to be educated and successful adults.
Besides Ms. Hang's family, over the past year, hundreds of policy beneficiary households and poor households with difficult circumstances in Thach An district have received support to build new houses. Implementing the Project to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the period 2021-2025, more than 1,340 houses in the district need repair or reconstruction, requiring over 52 billion VND in support funds. To date, the locality has completed and disbursed funds for 831 houses, totaling over 30 billion VND. To achieve the set goal, in January 2025, Thach An district launched a 200-day intensive campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. The entire district strives to support the construction and repair of houses for 673 poor households and policy beneficiary households with a total budget of approximately 26.7 billion VND.
With the highest political determination, Cao Bang province is focusing all resources to accelerate progress towards completing the task of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses by the end of 2025. In Bao Lam district, by the end of January 2025, the district had completed the support for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for 2,124 households, with 1,260 houses newly built and 864 houses repaired. The total disbursed funds amounted to over 80 billion VND. In early February, the Steering Committee for supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Bao Lam district launched a 172-day intensive campaign to support 1,947 households in building and repairing houses. The entire district strives to complete the goal of eliminating 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses for families of war veterans, relatives of martyrs, poor and near-poor households before August 2025.
Regarding the results of housing support for people in the area, Mr. Vu Dinh Quang, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cao Bang province, said that after being selected by the Government to pilot the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, Cao Bang has focused many resources on supporting housing for policy beneficiary households and poor households with difficult circumstances. During the implementation process, many localities have adopted creative approaches such as mobilizing police forces as the core force to closely monitor the area and provide direct support to each household.
In addition to funding from the budget, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels have mobilized additional funds, materials, and labor to support households in building and repairing their homes.
In 2024, nearly 7,000 poor households and families receiving preferential treatment in the province were supported in building new houses or repairing existing ones. Upon completion, these houses, ranging in size from 40 to 120 square meters, met the "three solid" criteria (solid walls, solid roof, solid walls, solid roof), with a value of 50 to 150 million VND per house. In 2025, Cao Bang province aims to eliminate 7,115 temporary and dilapidated houses, including nearly 4,800 houses designated for new construction. To achieve this goal, the Cao Bang Provincial Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses has assigned specific targets to each locality based on a review of the actual needs of villages and communes. The entire province strives to complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses before the 20th Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030.
