According to Eastern calculations, the five elements—metal, wood, water, fire, and earth—when combined with the Heavenly Stems (Giáp, Ất, Bính, Đinh, Mậu, Kỷ, Canh, Tân, Nhâm, Quý) and Earthly Branches (the 12 zodiac animals), create a precise 60-year cycle. February 10th marks the beginning of the Year of the Wood Dragon (Giáp Thìn), which corresponds to the Wood element.

The year that opened a new path.

According to an analysis by China Daily , the dragon represents strength, charisma, and leadership. Therefore, if you want to take advantage of opportunities in the Year of the Dragon, aim to become a driving force to bridge gaps and open up new avenues. For example, the Year of the Dragon might be a year to reconnect with long-lost relatives, reconcile with roommates or colleagues, or find ways to understand and reason with people who have differing viewpoints. Throughout this process, maintain your leadership role and create new beginnings.

Furthermore, the combination of the Wood element with the Year of the Dragon promises exploration, creativity, adaptability, and spiritual progress. The dragon is a call to break free from comfort zones and embrace new adventures. The path ahead may be fraught with risks, but it will be rewarded handsomely.

With the invigorating energy of the Year of the Dragon, feng shui experts believe this is a wonderful year for everyone to embrace creativity. Boldly bring your unique style to your work, relationships, or even your hobbies. The dragon in legend is not a shy or hesitant creature when it comes to sharing ideas with others, and neither are you. So, confidently let your imagination soar, explore new places, and unleash your potential to push back the limitations of your thinking.

Throughout this process, always be aware of new opportunities. Dragons love adventure and risk-taking, and the results tend to be positive when combined with the wood element.

Industries that will experience favorable conditions in the Year of the Dragon (2014)

From an economic perspective, The Malaysia Reserved website mentions the Feng Shui Guide to Prosperity report by Maybank Research, which advises that 2024 will be a year of intense competition, assertiveness, and manipulation. Furthermore, the Year of the Dragon could also see the risk of new conflicts erupting in the Middle East. "However, things will gradually cool down, allowing optimism to return to the region. The world can expect a turnaround in the third quarter of this year," according to the report.

The report also reflects the opinion of feng shui master Ken Koh, founder and chief advisor of House of Feng Shui (Singapore), a feng shui service provider since 1997 and publisher of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, regarding auspicious days. According to Master Koh, the dominance of the Wood element in 2024 will bring good fortune to the technology industry, which is associated with the Metal element.

"Industries expected to flourish in the Year of the Dragon include banking, machinery, mining, automotive manufacturing (including electric and luxury cars), private jets, computer hardware, and military equipment. Other sectors that will benefit include beauty products and services, cosmetic treatments, jewelry, luxury brands, expensive watches, and coinage," according to Professor Koh.

Regarding industries related to land use, the report also forecasts a positive shift in this sector. Firstly, this includes industries related to real estate business activities, real estate management funds, data storage facilities, and human resources. Secondly, it includes industries related to crops, urban agriculture, plant-based foods, recycling, waste management, and home-based businesses.

"Despite rising interest rates and inflationary costs, land-related sectors have demonstrated resilience and continue to build new foundations. In 2024, with interest rates poised to fall and financial management improving, these two sectors will receive strong support, with real estate in particular poised for a more favorable outlook," Maybank's report analyzes.
