According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , cashew exports in February 2025 are estimated at 25,000 tons with a value of US$170.5 million, bringing the total export volume and value of cashews in the first two months of 2025 to 62,400 tons and US$424.8 million, a decrease of 31.8% in volume and 13.7% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Cashew exports fell by double digits.

Previously, according to data from the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ), in January 2025, Vietnam exported 37.36 thousand tons of cashew nuts, worth 254.27 million USD, a decrease of 31.2% in volume and 29.9% in value compared to December 2024, and a decrease of 42.6% in volume and 27.5% in value compared to January 2024.

The United States, the Netherlands, and China are Vietnam's three largest cashew nut markets, accounting for market shares of 21.7%, 11.8%, and 7.1%, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the value of cashew nut exports to the US market decreased by 32.5% in January 2025, to the Chinese market decreased by 76.8%, while the Dutch market increased by 23.5%.

Among the top 15 export markets, cashew exports saw the strongest increase in value in France, rising by 29.9%, while the sharpest decline was in China, falling by 76.8%.

According to Mr. Bach Khanh Nhut, Vice President of the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS), the reason for the decrease in cashew exports in the first two months of the year is due to the somewhat sluggish market this year.

Buyers are waiting for the new season to begin. Additionally, there is a significant amount of inventory from previous purchases, and overseas warehouses are still holding large stocks, so importers are limiting their purchases.

Regarding the market outlook, Mr. Bach Khanh Nhut believes that from April to May onwards, the market will become more active, and sellers will be able to sign more contracts.

In 2024, Vietnam exported 730,000 tons of processed cashew kernels, earning US$4.37 billion, an increase of 13.3% in volume and 20.2% in value compared to 2023. The average export price was approximately US$6,003 per ton, a 6.1% increase compared to 2023. The Vietnam Cashew Association also forecasts that cashew exports will generate around US$4.5 billion this year.
