In the first four months of the year, durian export turnover reached more than 190 million USD, up nearly 6 times over the same period last year - the Chinese market accounted for over 84%.
The report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development showed that in 5 months, vegetable and fruit exports reached 1,97 billion USD, up 39% over the same period in 2022. This is the second growth rate after the rice industry.
In the structure of main export fruit categories, data from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) recorded only dragon fruit and banana with negative growth in the first 4 months of the year. In contrast, other key export fruits have double-digit growth rates. In particular, the export value of durian reached more than 190 million USD, a sudden increase of 573% compared to the same period last year.
Durian exports are mainly to China, accounting for 84,3% of the total export value of this fruit.
At the end of May, Vietnamese durian exports in the harvest season were also one of the reasons why the number of vehicles carrying goods to the Huu Nghi international border gate area increased sharply, causing traffic jams of more than 5 trucks. On the evening of May 700, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked eight ministries and relevant localities and agencies to soon find ways to handle and promote the clearance of agricultural products at the northern border gates.
Currently, Vietnam has 293 growing areas and 115 durian packing facilities of Vietnam that have been granted official export codes by China to this market.
In addition to official durian, Vietnam and China also signed a protocol with fruits such as mangosteen and bananas and are negotiating to sign a protocol on dragon fruit, watermelon, litchi, longan, rambutan and mango.
