Overnight simultaneous heart-liver transplant

In less than 24 hours, doctors and nurses of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital performed multiple organ retrieval and transplantation at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, while also directing and providing professional support to Nghe An General Friendship Hospital in diagnosing and resuscitating, assessing brain-dead patients, supporting multiple organ retrieval and kidney transplantation in Nghe An, as well as urgently transporting the liver and heart to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital to perform simultaneous heart-liver transplantation for patients with multiple organ failure.

Upon receiving information about the request for support in assessing brain-dead patients and supporting organ donation and transplant surgery from Nghe An General Hospital, Dr. Duong Duc Hung, Director of Viet Duc Hospital, immediately organized professional guidance and planned to send a team of experts to support. The resuscitation and brain-dead assessment team departed for Nghe An immediately afterwards.

After more than 8 hours of intense work, the high-tech surgery went smoothly. With the cooperation of many specialized units, this was the first multi-organ heart-liver transplant performed in Vietnam, opening a new era for the field of organ transplantation in Vietnam.
