Working through the night to fix the problem and restore water supply to the people as soon as possible.

Phu Yen Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company is mobilizing its maximum workforce of engineers, workers, and even experts from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, working around the clock to quickly restore the clean water supply system after the historic flood.

During the recent historic floods, the entire clean water supply system in the eastern part of the province was paralyzed.

According to statistics from Phu Yen Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, all 9 water treatment plants were flooded; the treatment systems, pumps, control cabinets, power pumps, and pipelines were all submerged in mud and debris.

In the days following the floodwaters receding, tens of thousands of households still lacked access to clean water. In this context, the company was forced to activate its emergency plan, mobilizing all its technical personnel and dividing teams to visit each plant to assess the damage and develop a restoration plan based on priority levels.

According to reports, by November 22nd, after many efforts, 8 out of 9 water treatment plants had resumed operation, including the Tuy An, Dong Xuan, Song Cau, Dong Bac Song Cau, Vung Ro, Phu Hoa, Song Hinh, and Son Hoa plants. Water supply in these areas has been largely restored.

The biggest bottleneck is the Tuy Hoa Water Treatment Plant, which plays a key role in supplying clean water to 38,000 households in the Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen, Binh Kien, Dong Hoa wards and many surrounding areas.

With a capacity of 28,000 m³/day, this plant suffered the most severe damage. The entire pumping system, supply pumps, storage tanks, control cabinets, electrical system, and even the basement were deeply submerged and almost completely paralyzed. Thick layers of mud and sand flooded into the equipment compartments, causing widespread damage.

The entire pumping station has been drained and thoroughly cleaned to prepare for the pump's repair and maintenance.

On the morning of November 22nd, as the floodwaters receded to a level accessible to the factory, workers and engineers immediately arrived to begin cleanup and restoration efforts. Mud and debris were continuously cleared for many hours, after which all the water in the pump chamber and the two clean water storage tanks was drained for cleaning. Each team of workers was assigned to handle specific tasks: some cleared debris, others cleaned the storage tanks, and still others dismantled control cabinets and cleaned components.

The biggest challenge was dealing with the electrical equipment and control systems, critical components that determine the plant's operational capability. Most circuit boards, inverters, and control panels were submerged in floodwaters for an extended period, severely damaged, and many parts were beyond repair. Immediately, the company urgently contacted equipment suppliers in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi , and invited a team of experts from these two cities to provide assistance.

Less than a day after the request was made, seven water industry experts arrived at the company, immediately beginning to inspect each component and system, working through the night alongside local engineers. In the machine rooms, the lights shone brightly from afternoon until morning, and the sounds of component dryers, disassembly tools, and technical discussions echoed continuously. Any equipment still usable was dried using specialized technology, while completely damaged equipment was immediately replaced.

It is expected that tonight (November 24th), Phu Yen Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company will operate the plant and flush the pipelines in Tuy Hoa ward (bounded east of Nguyen Tat Thanh street to the end of Doc Lap street) so that water supply to these areas can be restored on November 25th. On the afternoon of November 25th, the company will flush the remaining pipelines and resume water supply from November 26th.

To date, two new inverters have been delivered to the factory, and one high-power motor is en route to be installed as soon as it arrives. Simultaneously, the technical team is inspecting the entire water supply pipeline, flushing valves, and removing sediment to ensure water quality meets standards when it is restored.

At the factory site, many engineers and workers have had to eat and sleep right there for the past few days. Everyone is working their hardest because behind them are tens of thousands of households anxiously awaiting clean water.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Thuan, Deputy General Director of Phu Yen Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, said: “The damage this time is beyond imagination. Never in the company's history has the entire system been flooded simultaneously and suffered such extensive damage. But we are determined to act as quickly as possible to restore clean water to the people.”

Phu Yen Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company advises residents that after the water supply is restored, the water will be dirty, cloudy, and contain a lot of sediment due to pipe flushing. Residents should flush out this water until it is clear and free of sediment before using it.
