Zidane will manage the French national team after the 2026 World Cup. |
According to Le Parisien , Zidane has reached a preliminary agreement with the French Football Federation (FFF). For many years, the 52-year-old former star has reportedly rejected numerous attractive offers from major clubs and other national teams to wait for the opportunity to coach his home country's national team.
Although the contract details have not been released, French media claim that Zidane's appointment as head coach is only days away. Meanwhile, Deschamps has also confirmed that this summer's tournament will mark the end of his successful era with the national team.
At the same time, FFF President Philippe Diallo revealed that the identity of Deschamps' successor had been decided. Although Coach Deschamps remains fully focused on preparing for the 2026 World Cup campaign, the transition process after the tournament is already being meticulously planned.
Speaking to Le Figaro , Diallo said that the FFF (Football Federation of Football) had held discussions to ensure a smooth transition for "Les Bleus". Although he didn't name names, all indications point to Zidane. The former Real Madrid manager hasn't done any coaching work since leaving the Bernabeu in 2021.
Mr. Diallo emphasized that the position of head coach of the French national team requires a special profile, someone who not only has high professional expertise but also enjoys broad public support. "This is the French people's team, so the coach must meet many criteria and have the trust of the entire society," he said.
