1. What types of vehicles can I drive with a B2 driver's license?

According to Clauses 6 and 7 of Article 16 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, a Class B2 driver's license is issued to professional drivers to operate the following types of vehicles:

- Special-purpose vehicles with a designed payload of less than 3,500 kg;

- The types of vehicles specified for a B1 driver's license include:

+ Passenger cars with up to 9 seats, including the driver's seat;

+ Trucks, including specialized trucks, with a designed payload of less than 3,500 kg;

+ The tractor is pulling a trailer with a design load capacity of less than 3,500 kg.

2. Requirements for taking the B2 driving license test in 2023

- Being a Vietnamese citizen, a foreigner with legal residency, or currently working or studying in Vietnam.

- Must be at least 18 years old (as of the date of the driving test).

- Regarding educational qualifications: No requirements.

- Not suffering from diseases listed in Group 3 of Appendix 1 issued with Joint Circular 24/2015/TTLT-BYT-BGTVT.

Legal basis: Clauses 1 and 2, Article 7 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, point b, clause 1, Article 60 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, and Article 3 of Joint Circular 24/2015/TTLT-BYT-BGTVT.

3. Documents required for the B2 driving license exam.

The documents required for the A1 driver's license exam include:

- Application form for learning and taking the driving test to obtain a driver's license, as prescribed in Appendix 7 issued with Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT;

- A copy of the national identity card, citizen identification card, or valid passport containing the national identity card or citizen identification card number for Vietnamese citizens; a valid passport for Vietnamese citizens residing abroad;

- A copy of a passport valid for more than 6 months and a temporary residence permit or permanent residence permit or diplomatic identity card or official identity card for foreigners;

- A driver's health certificate issued by an authorized medical facility in accordance with regulations.

4. What sections are included in the B2 driving license test?

The B2 driving license test consists of 4 parts:

(1) Theory

- The B2 driving license theory test consists of 35 questions, including:

+ 1 sentence about the concept;

+ 01 question about a serious traffic safety incident;

+ 7 questions about traffic rules;

+ 1 question about transportation operations;

+ 1 sentence about speed and distance;

+ One sentence about traffic culture and driver ethics;

+ 2 questions about driving techniques;

+ 1 sentence about repair structure;

+ 10 questions about road signage systems;

+ 10 questions on solving traffic diagrams and handling traffic situations.

(2) Simulation test

Candidates taking the exam handle simulated scenarios that appear on a computer. The exam consists of 10 scenarios, each worth a maximum of 5 points.

(3) Sand model

Candidates taking the driving test must follow the correct sequence and operate the vehicle through the test sections arranged at the testing center, such as: starting, stopping to yield to pedestrians, stopping and starting on a slope, driving over tire tracks and right-angle turns, driving through intersections with traffic lights, driving through winding roads, parking (parallel parking, perpendicular parking), temporarily stopping at railway crossings, handling dangerous situations, changing gears on a flat road, and finishing.

(4) Road driving test

Candidates taking the driving test will operate the test vehicle, handle various situations on the road, and follow the instructions of the examiner.

Legal basis: Section 2.2 of Official Letter 1883/TCĐBVN-QLPT&NL of 2020; points a, d, h, g, Clause 3, Article 21 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, as amended and supplemented by Circular 38/2019/TT-BGTVT.

5. What is the passing score for the B2 driving license test?

- For the theory test:

Candidates must answer 35 questions within 22 minutes. Answering 32 or more questions correctly, and not making any errors on any questions that would result in a failing grade, qualifies them for the theory test and allows them to proceed to the simulation test.

- For the simulation section:

The test consists of 10 scenarios, each worth a maximum of 5 points.

Candidates who score 35 out of 50 points pass this section and are eligible to proceed to the driving test section.

- For the driving test section:

Candidates must achieve at least 80 out of 100 points to pass and be eligible to practice driving on public roads.

- For the road test:

Candidates who achieve a minimum score of 80/100 will be considered successful and issued a B2 driver's license.
