According to a report from the Ministry of Education and Training, on the first day of the 2026 High School Graduation Examination , the total number of candidates taking the exam was 1,203,039, reaching a participation rate of 99.56%. This rate is higher than in 2025, when the number of candidates taking the exam reached 99.55%.

Regarding the maintenance of discipline in examination centers, 12 candidates nationwide were suspended from the exam. Of these, 11 candidates used mobile phones, and 1 candidate used unauthorized materials in the examination room. Compared to 2025, when 10 candidates violated regulations in the Literature exam, the number of violations this year continues to increase. No invigilators were disciplined for violating regulations on the first day of the exam.
Overall, the Ministry of Education and Training assessed that the weather in many localities was relatively favorable, and traffic was ensured, creating conditions for candidates to arrive at the examination sites on time and in full. The organization of the exams in the localities took place safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations.
Examination centers nationwide fully carried out their assigned tasks, coordinating closely in invigilation work, and promptly detecting and handling cases of regulation violations. The majority of candidates strictly adhered to the examination regulations, maintained stable mental states, and focused on their work.
Later that afternoon, candidates continued with the Mathematics exam. The exam duration was 90 minutes, with the exam papers distributed at 2:20 PM and the exam starting at 2:30 PM.
To ensure the exam is conducted safely and seriously, the National Steering Committee requests that examination boards and testing centers continue to strengthen measures to prevent, detect, and strictly handle violations of regulations, especially the use of mobile phones, high-tech devices, or artificial intelligence (AI) applications to cheat during the exam.
According to the High School Graduation Examination Regulations, all violations will be recorded and subject to disciplinary action. Candidates may receive a reprimand for looking at another person's paper or exchanging papers; a warning if they continue to violate the rules after being reprimanded or if they copy or allow others to copy their work.
A more severe penalty is suspension from the exam, applied to candidates who bring unauthorized items into the exam room, take exam questions outside, receive answers from outside, write or draw irrelevant content on the exam paper, cause disturbances, or threaten exam officials or other candidates. Candidates who are suspended will receive a score of 0 on the offending exam, will not be allowed to continue taking the remaining subjects, and will have their entire exam result canceled.
In addition to disciplinary measures, the regulations also specify point deductions for each violation. Candidates who receive a reprimand will have 25% of their exam score deducted, while those who receive a warning will have 50% deducted. Some cases result in a score of 0, such as using unauthorized materials, submitting two or more answers for a single exam, or exams showing signs of being created by multiple people.
Exam results may also be invalidated if a candidate takes the exam on behalf of another person, has someone else take the exam for them, modifies their work after submission, uses someone else's work, or has two or more exam papers with a score of 0 due to violations of regulations.
For serious offenses such as falsifying documents, using illegal diplomas or certificates, disrupting or sabotaging the exam, or assaulting exam organizers, in addition to having their results canceled, candidates may also have their cases referred to the competent authorities for consideration and handling in accordance with the law.
