Using a facial mask is one of the indispensable skin care "tools" for many people. However, not everyone knows how to use it properly.
Below are common mistakes when using skin care masks, according to Dr. Tran Ngoc Phuong, Department of Dermatology, Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital.
Mask is not suitable for skin type
Just as you take great care when choosing the right cleanser or moisturizer for your skin type, remember to do the same with your face mask for best results.
Skip the face wash step
Washing your face is an extremely important step before applying a mask. Therefore, you should clean your skin with a suitable cleanser, then apply the mask.
Applying a mask with dirty hands
Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the mask. If your hands are dirty, bacteria from your hands will transfer to your face.
Overuse
Applying a thick layer of mask will not bring more effect. Therefore, only use a very thin layer of mask on clean and dry skin.
Do not re-edit the mask
Avoid using masks that are the wrong size for your face. If using a sheet mask, use scissors to cut off the excess before applying it to your skin.
Leaving the mask on your skin for too long
Leaving the mask on your skin for longer than the recommended time does not necessarily mean better results. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to avoid damaging your skin.
Not moisturizing your skin after applying a mask
After applying the mask, remember to apply a suitable layer of moisturizer to lock the nutrients in the mask into the skin, helping them to penetrate the skin in the best way.
