The Pink Star Diamond, a 59.6-carat diamond and one of the rarest gemstones on Earth, broke records at Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong in 2017 as the most expensive diamond ever sold at auction. Originally a rough stone from De Beers in 1999, it underwent a meticulous 20-month cutting process. After its initial unveiling in London in 2003, it was exhibited at the Natural History Museum in 2005, attracting over 70,000 visitors daily.
So how much did this stunning diamond sell for? A staggering $71.2 million.

The Oppenheimer Blue, $57.6 million
In 2016, The Oppenheimer Blue became the most expensive blue diamond ever sold at auction at Christie's Geneva.
This strikingly vibrant blue diamond, weighing 14.62 carats, is the largest diamond ever sold at auction. A tense 25-minute bidding war ensued before it sold for an astonishing $57.6 million.

Pink Legacy, $50 million
The Pink Legacy is one in a million with its intensity of color and caused a sensation when it was put up for auction in 2018, a hundred years after it was unearthed in South Africa. This 18.96-carat ring was purchased by Harry Winston for a hefty $50 million at Christie's Geneva.

The Williamson pink star made headlines at Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong in 2022. This strikingly vibrant pink diamond, initially estimated at $21 million, ultimately sold for an astonishing $49.9 million. That's a record price of $5,178,124 per carat, making it one of the most expensive diamonds ever sold.

Josephine's Blue Moon, $48.5 million
Having only been unveiled a year earlier in South Africa, the Blue Moon diamond was sold at a Sotheby's auction in Geneva in 2015. This stunning 12.03-carat blue gemstone was purchased by Joseph Lau, a businessman from Japan, for $48.5 million.

The Graff Pink, $46.2 million
The Graff Pink, a stunning 24.78-carat diamond, is truly a sight to behold. The Chairman of Sotheby's International Jewellery division could not contain his admiration for the gem, calling it “one of the most desirable diamonds I have ever seen.” This rare beauty was sold at Sotheby's 2010 auction to the renowned British jeweler, Laurence Graff.

The Orange, $35.5 million
The orange diamond is a rare gemstone and one of the few selected to earn the Fancy Vivid designation from the Gemological Institute of America. This pear-shaped diamond is the largest known orange diamond and weighs 9 carats more than the second-largest. It fetched $35.5 million at a Christie's auction in Geneva in 2013, making it one of the most expensive orange diamonds ever sold.

The Zoe diamond, $32.6 million.
That strikingly vivid blue diamond, weighing 9.75 carats, caused a sensation at Sotheby's in November 2014. It sold for $32.6 million, more than double the highest expected value, setting a record for both the price of a blue diamond and the price per carat for any diamond.
