Amidst the chilly weather of the year-end, the "Warm Clothes for Border Winter" program and a series of winter volunteer activities in 2025 are being widely implemented along the entire border line in the province. This is part of the practical actions of the Provincial Border Guard Command to implement the motto "stay close to the area, stay close to the villages," accompanying the people in building a stable and developing border region.
Heading towards the border
To ensure the program's impact, the Provincial Border Guard Command always prioritizes connecting with and creating a strong ripple effect within the community. In the past three years, the program has delivered over 1,000 gifts to people in border areas, helping to warm the hearts of thousands of families in these border regions. Continuing this humanitarian journey, in 2025 alone, the total value of gifts mobilized through social contributions by border guard posts will exceed 400 million VND.
In the last days of December 2025, at the Ba Son Border Guard Post, from early morning, officers and soldiers proactively coordinated with charitable groups to carry out preparatory work. Gifts were neatly arranged, and warm clothes and medicine were carefully prepared.
A highlight of this year's program was the in-depth healthcare services. Over 100 people received check-ups, ultrasounds, blood pressure measurements, and other examinations. Many modern medical devices were used to facilitate the examinations, helping to detect winter illnesses early.
"Today, I am very happy and moved to receive a warm blanket from the soldiers and benefactors, along with medicine and other necessities. This blanket will not only keep us warm while we sleep, but it will also warm the hearts of the people in our village." Ms. To Thi Di, Ban Vang village, Ba Son commune |
Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Head of the Orthopedic Surgery Department at the Ho Chi Minh City Rehabilitation Hospital, who directly examined the local people, said: "Only when we set foot here and witnessed the harsh weather and the lack of medical facilities did we truly understand the resilience of the soldiers and people here. The border guards and the local people have sacrificed so much to cling to the land, protect the forests, and safeguard national border sovereignty . Therefore, we bring our expertise here not only to treat illnesses but also to express our gratitude. We hope that our professional advice will help the people better understand how to protect and care for their health so they can stand firm on the nation's frontier."
Not only limited to activities in Ba Son commune, the spirit of mutual support and compassion of the program has been extended throughout the border regions of Lang Son province. In Thuy Hung commune, the Na Hinh Border Guard Post has also left a strong mark. Understanding the difficulties faced by the local people, in a program organized in November 2025, the Na Hinh Border Guard Post and its cooperating units donated 70 gift packages to families and students in difficult circumstances, with a total value of over 35 million VND.
Sharing about the efforts to connect resources for the program, Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Hoang Khanh, Deputy Political Officer of Na Hinh Border Guard Station, said: "To ensure the program's effectiveness, the unit proactively surveyed and thoroughly understood the local situation and the specific needs of each household. From there, we developed a plan and actively connected with charitable organizations and individuals. All support is ensured to be transparent, accountable, and delivered directly to the intended recipients, thereby not only helping people alleviate difficulties but also strengthening their trust."
The bond between the military and the people.
Following lively exchange activities, the gift-giving ceremony took place in a warm atmosphere. During the program, many meaningful gifts were handed directly to disadvantaged families in the border region. Gifts from the "zero-cost stall," new clothes, and thick blankets... all were imbued with heartfelt compassion.
Receiving the cotton blanket donated by the soldiers, Mrs. To Thi Di, from Ban Vang village, Ba Son commune, was overjoyed: "Today, I am very happy and touched to receive this cotton blanket from the soldiers and benefactors, along with medicine and essential supplies. This blanket will not only keep us warm while we sleep, but it will also warm the hearts of the people in our village."
The program is not just about material value; it also carries profound political and social significance. Mr. Hua Van Thu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Son commune, said: "For a border commune like Ba Son, which still faces many difficulties, the 'Warm Clothes for the Border Winter' program brings immeasurable value. It not only addresses immediate shortages but, more importantly, fosters a spirit of solidarity and mutual support. The presence of soldiers and charitable groups helps the people understand that they are not alone. This belief is the 'glue' that binds us together, helping us build a strong foundation of public support to protect the sacred sovereignty of our Fatherland."
The concrete and practical results achieved at the grassroots level have created a vibrant overall picture of mass mobilization work along the entire border line, affirming the correct policies of the Party Committee and the Border Guard Command of the province. Lieutenant Colonel Mai Van Manh, Deputy Head of Political Affairs, Border Guard Command of the province, said: The "Warm Clothes for Winter on the Border" program is one of the key activities in the mass mobilization work of the provincial Border Guard. Through the program, the image of the green-uniformed soldiers has become even closer and more connected with the ethnic people. In the future, we will continue to promote social mobilization and diversify forms of support to not only provide warm clothes and blankets but also support livelihoods, helping people rise out of poverty sustainably, and feel secure working with the Border Guard to firmly protect national sovereignty and border security.
The "Warm Clothes for Winter in Border Areas" program and the series of winter volunteer activities are just a part of the long, tireless journey of the soldiers in green uniforms. They are still working day and night in their assigned areas and villages, accompanying the people and contributing to building increasingly stable and sustainably developed border regions.
