The folk and revolutionary melodies and dance performances of the Homeland Choir and the Thanh Xuan Dance Group made the audience emotional.

This year’s festival, the dance “Three Worlds ” choreographed by artist Cathy Riand, choreographer of the Arabesque troupe, touched the hearts of the audience with its soft body language, blending modern breath and Asian inspiration. Ms. Cathy shared: “We worked every night for 5 days to build the work based on 3 natural elements - air, earth and water. I wanted to express the breath of the monsoon, the movement of rain and the vitality of the earth through the human body.”

Ms. Cathy confided that, although she had never been to Vietnam, she was still fascinated by the world of spirits and the magical beauty of the S-shaped strip of land. The female choreographer said: “I watched the movie 'The Scent of Green Papaya' for inspiration, then chose the soundtrack and the sounds of Vietnamese percussion instruments as the background. For me, it is a way to talk about the harmony between Vietnamese people and nature."

From the organizing committee, Ms. Camille Laucagne, coordinator of the Rabelais Center, emphasized that choosing Vietnam as the “cultural destination” of 2025 is the result of a year of careful preparation. She stated: “Each season, we choose a country for the audience to ‘travel’ through art. This year, the whole team unanimously turned to Vietnam - the country of smooth melodies, exquisite cuisine and long-standing cultural heritage.”

According to Ms. Camille, the 34th Festival Changé d'Air includes dozens of diverse activities - from dance, film screenings, exhibitions, seminars to cuisine and Vietnamese cultural experience classes. Nearly 30 volunteers and the Vietnamese Friends Association at Sarthe have contributed to bringing viewers an authentic image of Vietnam, from the decoration, costumes to the taste of the dishes - all prepared with passion and deep respect.

The folk and revolutionary melodies and dance performances by the Homeland Choir and the Youth Dance Group moved the audience. Amidst the continuous applause, many French audiences shared their special feelings about the beauty and depth of Vietnamese culture.

Ms. Stéphane Priou, a middle-aged audience member, said emotionally: “The performance was so beautiful, it touched my heart. The dances, costumes, and music were all wonderful! I was so moved to feel the patriotism and sincerity that the Vietnamese artists conveyed.”

In addition, Ms. André Baude, another audience member, confided: “I was really captivated by the music and the commentary of the female conductor of the Homeland Choir, who spoke about the sensitivity and delicacy of the Vietnamese soul, along with the pain that the Vietnamese people have experienced. I found the program really rich in emotions, because even though we did not understand all the lyrics, the commentary helped us feel a lot, bringing many emotions. My husband and I have been to Vietnam 4 times, so this performance made us even more emotional.”

Not only adults, but also young audiences found joy in discovery. Zoé Tremblay, 13, who had just completed a heart-shaped painting in an eggshell lacquer painting tutorial, enthusiastically shared: “I am very happy to learn about different cultures. I love Vietnam. Vietnamese lacquer painting art is wonderful and colorful!”

From dance to music, from traditional lacquerware to cuisine, the Festival Changé d'Air 2025 has brought the public of the Sarthe province a "journey" to Vietnam with all the senses - a warm, creative and emotional Vietnam. It is not only a meeting between two cultures, but also a bridge connecting hearts - where Vietnamese tones spread and stay long in the hearts of French friends.
