Manchester United's head coach, Ruben Amorim, spoke candidly about the club's transfer situation in the summer of 2025.

After Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League, the Portuguese manager admitted that the club's budget would be tightened by Financial Fair Play regulations and the lack of revenue from European competitions.

"We are not allowed to make massive signings this summer, even with the Champions League, so the coaching staff has prepared for that," Amorim stated.

Despite still pursuing transfer targets like Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap, Amorim insists his main focus will be on improving the existing squad and developing young talents from the academy. He expressed his belief that not participating in European competitions could provide an advantage in terms of tactical and physical preparation for the new season.

"The absence of the Champions League means we don't need a huge squad. We can control the team better and focus on long-term development," the Portuguese coach added.

MU prioritizes developing existing resources.

Amorim is renowned for discovering and developing young players at Sporting Lisbon and Braga, but he also emphasized the need to manage media pressure and expectations placed on young talents at a major club like Manchester United. He mentioned that the fact that players like Kobbie Mainoo have to constantly play from a young age is something that needs to be learned from.

Besides his plans to rebuild the team, Amorim is also leading the Red Devils on their post-season tour of Asia. Speaking ahead of the match against the ASEAN All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur, he shared: “We need to close the old chapter and prepare for the new season. I don’t need a rest, I want to get to work immediately.”

Despite Manchester United going through a difficult period, Amorim remains determined and optimistic about rebuilding the team. He emphasizes the importance of taking things one step at a time, rather than setting unrealistic goals in the current circumstances.

"This is Manchester United, everyone always expects us to reach the top. But I want the team to focus on small steps. Win the first game, then think about the next," the former Sporting coach emphasized.
