This move marks a significant development in the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries. Speaking on the sidelines of the International Maritime Exhibition “Fleet-2026”, the CEO of the BrahMos Aerospace joint venture, Alexander Maksichev, stated: "We are ready to fulfill orders if the Russian side makes a request. These could be missiles for the Navy or for land forces. We have the production capacity and understand what the Russian side needs."
This move marks a historic reversal in traditional defense trade relations, where India has been one of the world's largest net arms importers and Russia has been the primary supplier for decades.
The willingness to export a high-tech weapons system back to the country of origin of the technology not only demonstrates the remarkable maturity of India's defense industry, but also shows the effectiveness of the joint venture model between the two countries.
The BrahMos supersonic missile, a product of a collaboration between India's Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya since 1995, is currently one of the world's fastest cruise missiles, reaching speeds approaching Mach 3. Thanks to its flexible deployment capabilities on land, warships, and fighter aircraft, the BrahMos has demonstrated superior combat effectiveness and attracted significant interest from the international market.

According to observers, a potential order from Moscow would carry significant strategic symbolic meaning, affirming the global prestige of "Made in India" weapons. In the future, the two countries are expected to further enhance cooperation as they enter the research and development phase of the next generation of missiles utilizing hypersonic technology exceeding Mach 5, solidifying India's position as a new global powerhouse in defense production and export.
