This charitable mission was organized by the An Giang Provincial Military Command in coordination with relevant agencies in Takeo Province, Kingdom of Cambodia. The warm handshakes, kind inquiries, and free medical examinations and medication not only helped people in disadvantaged areas access healthcare but also contributed to strengthening the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The place where the team provided free medical examinations and medication on this occasion was once a resistance base of Vietnamese volunteer troops when they participated in the Southwest border war.

From early morning, the medical examination area in Pray Ambuot commune was crowded with people. Many elderly people, leaning on canes, and many young children were brought by their parents very early to wait for their medical examination. The atmosphere here became warmer thanks to the kind and caring inquiries of the Vietnamese military doctors and nurses.

Mr. Mun Men, a resident of Kom Penh commune (Ki Ri Vong district, Takeo province), who was born and raised in the area, was deeply moved to see Vietnamese soldiers come to provide free medical examinations and medicine. He shared: “I have many illnesses but lack the means to treat them. Now, hearing that a team of doctors from the Kien Giang Provincial Military Command has come to examine patients, provide medicine, and distribute gifts to the people here, I am very happy. I hope to recover quickly so I can continue working to earn money. I sincerely thank the medical team from the Kien Giang Provincial Military Command. After the examination, I will tell my neighbors and relatives so they can continue to come here for medical checkups.”

Despite the long journey and harsh weather conditions, all members strived to complete their assigned tasks successfully. Upon arrival, the doctors and nurses quickly got to work with the highest sense of responsibility. From measuring blood pressure and performing ultrasounds to conducting general examinations and dispensing medication, everything was done promptly and meticulously.

Despite the hot weather and challenging working conditions, each military medical officer wholeheartedly guided and inquired about the well-being of the local people with utmost sincerity. In many cases, elderly people did not understand Vietnamese, so the interpreters and officers of Team K93 provided enthusiastic support to ensure that the medical examinations proceeded smoothly.

Ms. Thach Thi Xoan, Head Nurse of the General Emergency Department at Kien Giang General Hospital, is one of the members who has accompanied medical teams to Cambodia on numerous occasions.

Ms. Xoan shared: “Although the journey was long and the weather was hot, seeing the people happy, trusting, and grateful to the team made all the hardships disappear. Many elderly people shook hands to express their gratitude, and many children were very happy to receive medical check-ups, medicine, and gifts. That is the motivation for me to continue participating in trips like this.”

According to Ms. Xoan, what impressed her most during each trip was the genuine affection of the Cambodian people for the Vietnamese medical team. The handshakes, smiles, and heartfelt glances from the locals boosted the morale of the team members, enabling them to overcome difficulties and successfully fulfill their mission of providing healthcare to the people of Cambodia.

Most importantly, throughout their mission in the host country, the delegation consistently received active support from the local government, armed forces, and people. Representatives of the government and military forces of Takeo province expressed their gratitude for the kindness and goodwill of the Vietnamese delegation, and highly appreciated the solidarity and close relationship between the armed forces of the two sides over the past period.

On this occasion, a team of doctors and medical staff from the An Giang Provincial Military Command examined and provided over 400 free medicine packages to local officials and residents, each package worth 100,000 VND. At the same time, the team also presented 60 gift packages to poor families in the area, each package worth 500,000 VND.

This action has left a very positive impression on the local authorities and people of the host country regarding the image of Vietnamese soldiers in peacetime.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Xuyen, Team Leader of Team K93, An Giang Provincial Military Command, said: “The activities of providing free medical examinations, medicine, and gifts to the people of Takeo province not only demonstrate the responsibility and affection of the officers and soldiers of the An Giang Provincial Armed Forces towards the people of Cambodia, but also contribute to strengthening the traditional solidarity and friendship between the two countries.”

According to Colonel Cao Minh Tam, Deputy Political Commissar of the An Giang Provincial Military Command: The organization of providing medicine and gifts to the people in Takeo province by the An Giang Provincial Military Command in collaboration with Kien Giang General Hospital aims to create the most favorable conditions to care for the lives of the people in Cambodia, thereby strengthening the solidarity and friendship between the Vietnamese and Cambodian people, as well as between An Giang province and Takeo province.”

"Based on this medical examination, medication distribution, and gift-giving, the aim is also to enable Team K93 to gather more information about the graves of martyrs in foreign lands, thereby helping the team to successfully complete the task of searching for and collecting the remains of Vietnamese martyrs, volunteer soldiers, and experts who sacrificed their lives during the resistance wars in foreign lands."

Each dose of medicine delivered personally, each heartfelt greeting from the soldiers in green uniforms in a foreign land, has contributed to further enhancing the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the hearts of the Cambodian people. This is not only a civilian outreach activity with profound humanitarian significance, but also a bridge to cultivate the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia, making it ever stronger.
