An Giang proposes to soon use sea sand for highway construction
An Giang province proposed to consider alternative sources of landfill materials; as well as to soon use sea sand resources for construction works, especially highway projects in the Mekong Delta region.
According to the State Management Report on Minerals in 2023 recently issued by the People's Committee of An Giang province, up to now, there are 10 valid mineral exploitation licenses in the province, including 4 river sand mines with a total area of 155.98 hectares and an exploitation capacity of 2,370,000 m3/year (temporarily suspended since December 2023), 6 construction stone mines with a total area of 178.5 hectares and an exploitation capacity of 3,700,000 m3/year.
Mineral exploitation organizations and individuals have fulfilled financial obligations with a total amount of 248.92 billion VND.
The source of sand for filling is scarce, causing many difficulties for construction projects. |
The People's Committee of An Giang province has also informed about the sand source for highway construction projects. In particular, for the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang highway section passing through An Giang province, the province has arranged and confirmed mineral exploitation for the highway construction contractor (3 mines) with a reserve of 4,111,789 m3.
In addition, the province has allocated 1,500,000 m3 from the Vam Nao River Dredging Project. At the same time, the expressway contractors have received sand from two mines on the Hau River in Vinh My Ward, Chau Doc City; Khanh Hoa Commune, Chau Phu District; Phu Hiep Commune, Phu Tan District and from the dredging area in Vinh Hoa Commune, Tan Chau Town with a total volume of 319,736 m3.
Thus, the total volume that contractors constructing the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway section through An Giang province have received, distributed and registered to exploit from the mines assigned under the special mechanism is 5,931,525 m3 (still lacking 3,389,475 m3 out of the total demand of 9,321,000 m3).
For the Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressways (part of the North - South expressway), the province has arranged and confirmed mineral exploitation for the expressway construction contractor (5 mines) with a reserve of 5,195,735 m3. In addition, the province has allocated 1,456,000 m3 from the Vam Nao River Dredging and Flow Regulation Project. At the same time, the expressway contractors have received sand from 2 mines on the Tien River in Binh Phuoc Xuan commune and Tan My commune, Cho Moi district with a volume of 110,000 m3.
The total volume of the Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway construction contractors allocated and registered to exploit from the mines assigned under the special mechanism is 6,761,735 m3 (still lacking 194,265 m3 out of the total volume of 7,000,000 m3).
Particularly for the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway section through Can Tho and Hau Giang, the province has supported the arrangement and confirmation of mineral exploitation for the expressway construction contractor (2 mines) with a reserve of 5,911,069 m3.
According to the People's Committee of An Giang province, recently, landslides in the province have shown signs of increasing and expanding into canals and streams due to increasingly depleted river sand minerals, while the demand for sand for filling is very high.
Therefore, the province proposed to consider alternative sources of filling materials; as well as soon exploit sea sand resources to serve the projects, especially highway projects in the Mekong Delta region.
