Biometric technology is a method of identifying and verifying individuals through biological characteristics such as iris patterns and facial images. This technology aims to minimize the possibility of forgery and offers high security. Since the beginning of May 2026, many mobile subscribers in the province have experienced one-way blocking due to changes in SIM card devices without facial authentication or with biometric data not matching the information on their VNeID. To provide maximum support to customers in completing the information standardization process, mobile network operators in the province have been actively implementing many synchronized solutions.
Currently, Viettel Lang Son is the mobile network operator with the largest number of subscribers and market share in the province. These days, the unit's staff are actively deploying support for customers to verify biometric information and standardize their details in every village and hamlet throughout the province. Lieutenant Colonel Bui Dinh Khoa, Director of Viettel Lang Son, stated: Viettel Lang Son has mobilized its staff to participate in 100 mobile support teams to verify customers through both in-person meetings and phone calls. Simultaneously, they are conducting awareness campaigns through all social media platforms (Zalo, Facebook), using mobile radio broadcasts by motorbike to reach every village and hamlet, and contacting nearly 1,000 village heads in remote and disadvantaged areas to help disseminate information and encourage residents to verify their details. As a result, Viettel Lang Son has now successfully verified over 90% of its subscribers.
Not only Viettel Lang Son, but all mobile network operators in the province are currently rushing to implement biometric authentication support for customers. Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, Head of Business Operations at VNPT Lang Son, said: To provide maximum support to customers, the unit has coordinated with relevant units and local authorities to promote the dissemination of regulations on standardizing and verifying mobile subscriber information through village and neighborhood meetings. At the same time, they have collaborated with community digital technology teams and organizations in communes and wards in disseminating information, guiding, and supporting people in standardizing subscriber information; assigning staff to be on duty at transaction points continuously from 7 am to 8 pm, all days of the week, including holidays, to provide maximum support for subscriber information verification. To date, over 90% of Vinaphone subscribers have completed the verification process.
Ms. Hoang Thi Hang from Tam Thanh ward shared: "Because my mobile phone number hadn't been verified with facial biometrics, my SIM card was recently blocked for outgoing calls. Thanks to the advice from Viettel Lang Son staff, I received support in setting up biometrics and related information to standardize my subscriber information and avoid having my SIM card blocked again. I found the steps very simple, safe, and convenient."
Mr. Tran Huu Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, stated: Verifying mobile subscriber information, including biometric authentication, is an urgent requirement in the context of increasingly sophisticated online fraud. Mobile phone SIM cards are no longer simply communication tools but have become the "key" to accessing many digital services, from bank accounts, e-wallets, social networks to OTP codes for transaction authentication. To provide maximum support to the people, the department has closely directed network operators in the province to intensify propaganda and implement diverse solutions to support biometric authentication and standardize subscriber information for the people, especially the elderly and people in particularly disadvantaged areas. This contributes to building a "clean" subscriber database, creating a foundation to promote digital transformation in the province.
Given the rapid increase in phone and online scams, strengthening biometric authentication for mobile phone subscribers is becoming an urgent requirement. This not only aims to standardize user data but is also considered a crucial "shield" to limit the use of "junk" SIM cards and fake accounts. This contributes to creating a safer and more transparent digital environment.
