Impressions of Go Dau

Rich in heroic tradition

During the anti-French period, Go Dau was a part of Trang Bang district. After the Geneva Agreement was signed, due to the requirements of revolutionary tasks, in 1955, the superiors unified the policy and directed the separation of a part of land in the North of Trang Bang to establish Go Dau district.

Due to its strategic location, Go Dau district became an important military corridor, the gateway to the Southern Central Bureau Base, to the Boi Loi base, and the Duong Minh Chau war zone. Therefore, the US and puppet troops focused on many war tactics, intensified and vigorously carried out sweeping operations and fierce attacks. They occupied posts in all key areas, deployed large artillery clusters, and regularly bombarded revolutionary bases, causing much pain and sorrow to the people.

In 1964, the US-puppet regime carried out the "Special War", continuously sweeping, leveling, and encroaching on revolutionary base areas. Faced with that situation, the Go Dau District Party Committee launched the "Determined to defend Go Dau" movement.

At the same time, the District Party Committee strengthened its attachment to the grassroots with the motto "Party cells stick to the people - People stick to the land - Guerrillas stick to the enemy". Party members and cadres supported the masses to "stick to the land, protect the village, not moving an inch, not leaving a millimeter". The movement spread more and more strongly, the masses rose up to destroy strategic hamlets, protect the suburbs, contributing to the defeat of the enemy's strategic plot.

After the defeat in 1968, the US imperialists switched from the “Local War” strategy to the “Vietnamization of the war” strategy, expanding pacification and conducting more intense raids. The revolutionary forces suffered heavy losses, many cadres and soldiers were sacrificed, and some revolutionary bases were destroyed. In that difficult and challenging moment, the District Party Committee continued to direct and launch the “Determined to defend Go Dau” campaign for the second time.

Ms. Truong Thi Phu - Vice Chairman of Go Dau District People's Committee said: "At that time, Comrade Chin Suoi was the Secretary of the District Party Committee, directing the mobilization of all forces to return to the core area. Company 33 was the core, organizing to stay, dig secret tunnels, bring cadres, guerrillas, and sectors back to the area, gradually restoring the movement. Working day for night, working night for day, eating wind and sleeping in the dew, fighting without rest".

In April 1975, along with the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the entire South advanced to liberate Saigon. The troops of Go Dau seized the opportunity, fought decisively and won. Go Dau was liberated at noon on April 30, 1975, ending the war, contributing to the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.

Building the homeland from the ruins of war

In the first years after liberation, Go Dau was severely devastated. The Party, Government and People had to overcome the consequences of war, restore production, stabilize society and life.

Mr. Vo Van Dai - former Chairman of Go Dau District People's Committee, former Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs recalled: "After the peace, we came out of the forest with only backpacks, bags of rice, guns, tarps and a hammock. There were no facilities or administrative headquarters. At that time, the District Party Committee and all sectors, including the army and police, temporarily lived in people's houses, relied on people to live, and gradually rebuilt our homeland."

Despite many difficulties, the entire Party and people of Go Dau district have promoted the tradition of their ancestors, steadfastly overcome all challenges, and gradually risen up. Up to now, Go Dau district has 8/8 communes meeting new rural standards, of which 3 communes have met advanced new rural standards, and 1 commune has met model new rural standards.

Mr. Le Van Toi, a good farmer, residing in Cay Xoai hamlet, Thanh Phuoc commune, Go Dau district said: “In recent years, government leaders at all levels have paid attention to and invested in upgrading and expanding all village roads, alleys, and inter-hamlet roads to be very spacious. In particular, in the district, there are irrigation works to help people conveniently cultivate and farm to develop the economy.”

The highlight is that the economy of Go Dau district is always in the top of good growth, the economic structure continues to shift towards increasing the proportion of industry - construction, trade and services. There are currently 421 domestic and foreign-invested enterprises operating in the district, contributing to creating jobs for more than 60 thousand workers. National defense and security are ensured, political security, social order and safety are maintained and stable. The activities of the mass mobilization system, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations have many positive changes.

Ms. Truong Thi Phu - Vice Chairman of Go Dau District People's Committee commented that, looking back on the 70-year journey, the Party Committee, Government and People of the district are very proud that successive generations always know how to promote the heroic tradition with two times of "Determined to defend Go Dau". With the achievements in the resistance war against invaders, Go Dau has made great contributions to the liberation of the nation, the liberation of Tay Ninh, the liberation of the beloved homeland.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Provincial Party Secretary, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council presented gifts to veteran revolutionary cadres.

The army and people of Go Dau were honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State. The communes of Phuoc Thanh, Thanh Phuoc, Hiep Thanh, Thanh Duc, the 33rd Infantry Company of the local army, the Armed Reconnaissance Team of Go Dau Security and 6 individuals were awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. In addition, 195 people were posthumously awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother, many families with meritorious services in the resistance war were awarded and posthumously awarded medals by the State.

Ms. Truong Thi Phu affirmed: “This is not only the honor and pride of the homeland but also a very valuable internal resource, crystallized by patriotism, courage, and the willingness to sacrifice for a greater cause, which has become the potential and motivation for Go Dau to confidently and independently enter a new phase.

It has been 70 years since Go Dau was formed and developed; 50 years since the day the South was completely liberated and the country was unified. Go Dau is a land that always has the tradition of "The Party trusts the people, builds a base in the hearts of the people. The people trust the Party and follow the Party to the end". That tradition has created the miracle of "Defending Go Dau to the death" twice.

The Vice Chairman of the Go Dau District People's Committee shared that the country is entering a new era, an era of national growth. Our Party is making many major decisions and revolutionary breakthroughs, such as streamlining the apparatus and political system to be more efficient, effective, and effective; reorganizing administrative units and local governments at two levels, provincial and communal levels; strengthening the communal level to be strong enough to be close to the people, serve the people in all aspects, especially ending the district level activities. The name Go Dau district will be a beautiful memory in our hearts. The value of the heroic tradition will forever be passed on to future generations.

Looking back over the past 70 years, the district has left many unforgettable impressions. From a young land, born in war, the Party Committee and People of Go Dau have bravely fought to the death twice to protect their homeland. Over the past half century, Go Dau has always been dynamic and advanced in all aspects and promises to continue to develop more strongly in the future.
