After months of being criticized for lagging behind in the AI race, Apple chose WWDC 2026 to unveil its new strategy centered around Apple Intelligence. Instead of adding individual features, the company is aiming to integrate AI across its entire ecosystem, from iPhones and iPads to Macs and smart home devices.
The highlight of this year's event is Siri, Apple's comprehensively upgraded virtual assistant designed to compete with the new generation of AI chatbots that have emerged in recent years. The new Siri has better contextual understanding, maintains more natural conversations, and provides detailed responses instead of just executing simple commands as before.
Siri becomes the centerpiece of Apple Intelligence.
According to Apple, Siri can now recognize what's displayed on the screen to provide contextually relevant responses. On iPhones, this virtual assistant is more deeply integrated into the operating system, including the ability to activate it directly from Dynamic Island and support for more complex tasks.

On macOS 27 Golden Gate, Siri also appears in Spotlight, transforming the familiar search tool into an AI-powered question-and-answer center. Users can ask Siri to search for documents, summarize content, or perform file-related tasks directly from this interface.

These changes indicate that Apple no longer views Siri as simply a voice assistant. Instead, the company wants to transform Siri into a universal AI interaction layer across all its devices.
AI is everywhere in the Apple ecosystem.
Besides Siri, Apple is also bringing AI to many other apps and services.
Safari has been updated with the ability to organize tabs by topic, track changes on websites, and send notifications when new content appears. Apple also allows users to create browser extensions using natural language commands.

The Camera app on the iPhone has been upgraded with Siri Mode, allowing it to recognize objects in the frame and provide real-time information. Meanwhile, Messages can suggest suitable images to share in conversations, and Mail supports event creation and more intelligent content processing.

AI is also featured in the Home smart home platform. The system can automatically generate descriptions for videos from security cameras, synthesize data from multiple cameras, and allow users to search for content using natural language.

While WWDC 2026 will still bring changes to the interface and operating system, AI will be the overarching theme of the event. After years of focusing on hardware, Apple is demonstrating its ambition to make artificial intelligence the core foundation for its next generation of products, while simultaneously closing the gap with rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft in the AI race.
