According to The Information, Apple has decided to temporarily halt development of the second-generation Vision Pro virtual reality headset, or Vision Pro 2. Instead, they are adjusting their strategy to focus on a more affordable mixed reality (MR) headset called the N109.
Apple has revised its development plans for the second-generation Vision Pro glasses.
Apple's goal is to launch an affordable Vision Glasses product, priced at around $1,600, equivalent to the current top-of-the-line iPhone. However, reducing the price without sacrificing too many features is proving challenging for the company. Therefore, the product launch is expected to be delayed until the end of 2025.
Information from MacRumors also indicates that, despite being a cheaper version, the Vision glasses will still use a high-quality display similar to the Pro version. However, Apple will cut back on some components such as the camera, speakers, and strap design to reduce production costs.
This shows that Apple values offering technology products at prices more affordable to the majority of consumers, in order to increase competitiveness in the rapidly growing virtual reality headset market.
