The recently launched iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro have quickly become the subject of debate regarding durability. While the iPhone Air impresses with its slim and lightweight design, resistance to bending, and good scratch resistance, some images still show that scratches can appear on the device.
The iPhone 17 Pro is scratch-free.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro has caused more concern as display units at Apple Stores have shown signs of indentation on the back, especially around the wireless charging ring.
In response to 9to5mac , Apple explained that these weren't scratches but rather marks left on the display charging dock, which can be easily wiped away.
The company also stated that it is replacing old charging docks in its stores. Besides the iPhone 17 Pro, some other models, such as the iPhone 16, may also experience a similar issue.

Meanwhile, the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything posted images showing that the raised bezel around the iPhone 17 Pro's camera module is more prone to scratches than other areas because Apple did not bevel or round this section.
Is the iPhone 17 Pro very resistant to scratches on its body and back?
Apple responded that the camera bezel is made of aluminum, similar to that used on MacBooks and other products. This material has been tested for durability, but minor scratches may appear over time due to daily use.
Tests still show that the iPhone 17 Pro is very difficult to scratch on the body and back, with only the camera bezel being susceptible to damage. The second-generation Ceramic Shield glass on the iPhone 17 series is also considered to be much more scratch-resistant than before.
Apple states that the iPhone 17 Pro uses a premium 7000-series aluminum frame, which has undergone numerous durability tests. However, compared to the titanium frame of the previous generation, the switch to aluminum also comes with some trade-offs, so the company recommends users use a protective case.
According to Apple, images of scratched iPhones circulating on social media don't accurately reflect the reality, as many cases involve damage caused by intentional impact. Similarly, display models in stores don't accurately represent durability, as they undergo hundreds of customer tests every day.
The company emphasized that the new design offers several benefits: lighter weight, better heat dissipation, longer battery life, and a more comfortable grip.
