Apple has just launched the iPhone 16e, a more affordable model in the iPhone 16 line. The device features an A18 chip, a 48MP rear camera, and Apple Intelligence support. It's also the first smartphone to use Apple's own designed 5G modem, codenamed C1.
As rumored, the iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch OLED display, a notch housing a 12MP selfie camera, and Face ID. This means Apple will no longer sell iPhones with Touch ID fingerprint sensors.
The device features a USB-C port and an Action button instead of a traditional doorbell lever. Several tasks can be activated with the Action button, such as turning the flashlight on/off, taking photos, identifying music, adjusting the ringtone mode, and running shortcuts.
The iPhone 16e is equipped with the same A18 chip as the standard model. According to Apple, the 6-core CPU delivers 80% higher performance than the A13 Bionic in the iPhone 11, alongside a 4-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine.
Apple says the A18's Neural Engine is "optimized for large-scale generative modeling, capable of running machine learning (ML) models up to six times faster than the A13 Bionic."
With the A18 chip, the iPhone 16e supports Apple Intelligence. Notable features include Genmoji, Writing Tools, object removal in photos, ChatGPT, and more. Users can also activate Visual Intelligence via the Action button.

Another highlight of the iPhone 16e is the C1, Apple's first 5G modem. The company claims it's "the most energy-efficient modem ever on an iPhone, providing fast and stable 5G connectivity."
The back of the iPhone 16e features a 48MP Fusion camera with 2x optical zoom. Some of the camera modes include portrait, night mode, and HDR.
By default, the device will take photos at 24 MP, but users can switch to 48 MP. Meanwhile, the 2x option allows for zooming in on images while maintaining sharpness, eliminating the need for a dedicated telephoto camera.
The iPhone 16e supports Dolby Vision 4K video recording at a maximum frame rate of 60 fps. The device can record 360-degree audio (Spatial Audio), and includes an Audio Mix mode for fine-tuning the sound after recording.
"Users can adjust the audio after recording to focus on the voice of the person in the frame, making the sound as if the video was shot in a professional studio, or to focus on the voice in the foreground and block out ambient noise from surrounding sounds."
"With wind noise reduction features, powerful machine learning algorithms help reduce unwanted noise for better sound quality," Apple describes the function of Audio Mix.

Thanks to the A18 processor and C1 modem, Apple claims the iPhone 16e has “the best battery life ever on a 6.1-inch iPhone model,” lasting 6 hours longer than the iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than previous generations of iPhone SE.
The device also supports wireless charging (but not MagSafe), satellite communication, vehicle crash detection, and IP68 water/dust resistance.
According to Apple Vietnam's website, the iPhone 16e can be pre-ordered from February 28th and delivered from March 7th. The device starts at 17 million VND for the 128GB version and is only available in two color options: black and white.
