In recent years, forestry development in Ba Chẽ commune has achieved many positive results, further affirming forestry as a key economic sector of the locality. The commune focuses on shifting the structure of planted forests towards large timber, native trees, and specialty trees with high economic value, while strengthening management, protection, and sustainable forest development. The area of concentrated planted forests, large timber forests, and forests managed according to sustainable standards is constantly expanding, and forest cover is always maintained at a high level. Many models of production forest planting, cinnamon cultivation, and native tree planting have proven effective, contributing to increased income, stable job creation, environmental protection, and proactive response to climate change.
In particular, the commune is actively encouraging people to switch from planting short-term acacia trees, which are not very efficient, to planting cinnamon – a forestry tree that brings sustainable economic and ecological value, suitable to the natural conditions of Ba Chẽ. As a native tree, cinnamon grows well on hilly land, is less susceptible to pests and diseases, and can be planted as a monoculture or intercropped. After 7-10 years, people can harvest the bark, trunk, branches, and leaves for processing and distilling essential oil. In recent years, the cinnamon market has been stable, with high demand for medicinal purposes, spices, and export. Currently, the entire commune has about 1,000 hectares of cinnamon, with an average yield of nearly 50 tons of fresh bark per year. For example, Nam Kim village, an area with a large forest area, previously mainly planted with acacia, now has about 200 hectares that people have proactively converted to cinnamon cultivation, opening up a more efficient and sustainable development direction.

In 2026, Ba Chẽ commune aims to plant 1,200 hectares of forest, including 200 hectares of cinnamon, while replanting all forest areas damaged by natural disasters, striving to increase forest cover to 58%. Starting in late 2025, the commune proactively reviewed the area designated for reforestation. Villages, organizations, businesses, and the people actively registered land allocations, providing a basis for overall coordination, guidance, and resource allocation. To date, the area prepared for reforestation has reached 1,040.2 hectares, equivalent to 86.68% of the plan.
In response to the "Tree Planting Festival in memory of President Ho Chi Minh" in the Spring of 2026 (Year of the Horse), the commune planted 3.5 hectares of Pinus massoniana in hamlets 2 and 7. In the first two months of the year, the entire commune planted approximately 40 hectares of cinnamon, acacia, and pine trees, creating a vibrant atmosphere of emulation right from the beginning of the year.
Determined to achieve the set goals, the commune is focusing on increasing the proportion of cinnamon trees in the planted forest structure. The commune People's Committee directs the villages to continue reviewing forest land, and to intensify propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people to register for cinnamon seedling support through various flexible methods such as village meetings, announcements on Zalo groups, and direct discussions with each household. The propaganda content emphasizes the economic value, sustainability, and adaptability of cinnamon trees, reinforcing people's confidence in choosing long-term development. With decisive leadership, the coordinated efforts of the villages, and the consensus of the people, Ba Chẽ commune is determined to successfully complete the 2026 reforestation plan.
