In the early morning of June 9th, a landslide occurred in Luỹ hamlet, Phước Lại commune (Cần Giuộc district), sweeping away 5 kiosks belonging to two households into the river, causing initial estimated damage of approximately 1.4 billion VND. The incident also caused numerous cracks in Provincial Road 826C, which runs along the river. Without protective measures, the road will be at risk of further landslides when the river water recedes.

According to Mr. Vo Kim Thuan, Head of the Rural Development and Irrigation Sub-Department of Long An , this is the only road used by thousands of households and transportation businesses in six communes of Can Giuoc district. Currently, authorities are temporarily restricting heavy trucks from passing through the landslide area.

Long An province currently has four particularly serious landslide areas in the districts of Can Giuoc, Tan Tru, Thanh Hoa, and Tan Thanh. The local authorities have submitted a request to the central government for funding of over 1,300 billion VND to build seven riverbank erosion control projects.

This morning in Dong Thap, a 30-meter-long landslide along the Nha Man - Tu Tai canal in Chau Thanh district caused a car repair shop and a fertilizer warehouse to collapse into the river, with estimated damages of half a billion VND.

According to the fertilizer shop owner, cracks appeared in the tiled floor of the warehouse a few days ago. Suspecting a landslide, he and his neighbors moved their belongings outside to minimize damage. The affected part of the structure was built with half of the floor on the bank and the other half on the water. Long cracks appeared in the warehouse walls, indicating that the landslide may not have stopped. Authorities are assisting residents in moving their belongings and have posted warning signs.

On June 7th and 8th, a 65-meter-long, 3-7-meter-wide landslide occurred on the northern bank of the Ca Mau - Bac Lieu river in Tan Phong commune, Gia Rai town (Bac Lieu province). The incident caused partial collapse of 13 houses and cracks appeared in 83 others.

Local authorities dispatched forces to help households clean up the damaged areas, move belongings from households at risk of landslides, erect warning signs, and compile damage reports and provide assistance to residents.

Since the beginning of this year's rainy season, the provinces in the Mekong Delta have experienced numerous landslides, mainly in upstream areas such as An Giang and Dong Thap.
