Alongside the task of developing the local economy and society, the regular police force in the border communes of Son La province has been playing a pivotal role in combating and preventing crime. The proactive approach of border officers, their close ties with the local people, has contributed to building a strong people's security posture, creating a reliable foundation for the people to work and produce with peace of mind, and jointly maintaining national border security.

Following the merger, Chiềng Sơn border commune in Sơn La province covers an area of over 204.9 km² with more than 3,100 households, mostly inhabited by the Thái and Mông ethnic groups. The large area, scattered population, numerous border areas, and difficult transportation have posed significant challenges to state management of security and order. However, overcoming initial difficulties in the process of reorganizing the administrative apparatus, the Chiềng Sơn commune police force quickly stabilized its operations, playing a core role in ensuring security and order and building a solid people's security posture at the grassroots level.

Behind today's peace and tranquility lie the tireless dedication of the commune's police officers and soldiers, who have stayed close to the people for many years. Undeterred by difficulties, even in villages tens of kilometers away from the center, they regularly visit each household to disseminate legal information and encourage people to prevent crime and social vices.

Having been involved in the area for many years, Lieutenant Colonel Vu Minh Nam, of the Chieng Son Commune Police, shared: “We focus on staying close to the villages, strengthening legal awareness campaigns for people in remote areas and border regions. When people understand the law and proactively cooperate in maintaining security and order, they can feel secure in their work and production, and develop the economy.”

Recognizing that maintaining security begins with building trust among the people, the Chiềng Sơn Commune Police force has proactively coordinated with the Border Guard to deploy numerous task forces to the grassroots level. From village meetings and gatherings at cultural centers to mobile propaganda sessions, the dissemination of legal information is conveyed in a way that is accessible, easy to understand, and appropriate to the customs and traditions of each ethnic group. Persistently implementing the motto "going to every alley, knocking on every door, checking every individual," in the first quarter of 2026 alone, the Chiềng Sơn Commune Police organized nearly 20 legal awareness sessions, attracting more than 1,200 participants.

As a result, people's awareness of drug prevention, weapons and explosives management, human trafficking prevention, and illegal immigration has significantly improved. These positive changes are most noticeable in villages that were once hotspots for security and order issues. While many households previously felt hesitant and indifferent to crime prevention efforts, they have now become valuable "eyes and ears" supporting law enforcement agencies.

The commune police are intensifying efforts to raise awareness and recover weapons, explosives, and combat support equipment from the local population.

Mr. Song A Mua, Deputy Head of Nam Den village, said that through the propaganda of the commune police force about the dangers of illegally possessing weapons, explosives, and combat support equipment, along with the village management board's functional forces, they have actively reminded people to comply with regulations and not use homemade guns or illegal explosives. This has helped the villagers understand the law better and have a better awareness of the law than before.

Beyond propaganda, the commune police force also pays special attention to building a nationwide movement to protect national security through practical models suitable to the local conditions. Currently, Chiềng Sơn commune has 24 villages and sub-districts with over 3,000 households and nearly 15,000 inhabitants. To effectively manage this large area, the commune police have advised the local Party committee and government to develop and replicate many self-governing models for security and order associated with clans, residential areas, and mass organizations. These models not only contribute to raising awareness of law compliance but also promote community solidarity, creating a widespread security network right from the grassroots level. Many households voluntarily surrender homemade weapons and actively provide valuable information to help functional forces detect and promptly handle violations of the law.

Lieutenant Colonel Truong Huy Toan, Deputy Head of Chieng Son Commune Police, said: “After the merger, the workload increased significantly. In response, the commune police have advised on the development of models such as “Neighborhood Self-Management” and “Partnership in Career Development” to support people recovering from drug addiction in reintegrating into the community and finding stable employment. “Through these models, we have been able to leverage the role of respected individuals, village elders, and community leaders in maintaining security and order, thereby creating a combined strength at the grassroots level,” Lieutenant Colonel Truong Huy Toan emphasized.

Not only in Chieng Son, but also in the border commune of Phieng Khoai, security and order maintenance is being implemented comprehensively and effectively. This area has over 21 km of border with Laos , a complex terrain, and many trails and openings that pose a potential risk for various types of crime, especially drug trafficking and illegal immigration. Under these conditions, the Phieng Khoai commune police force has proactively coordinated closely with the Border Guard, the commune's Military Command, and political and social organizations to build a solid people's security posture. Currently, the locality effectively maintains 30 security and order teams, 143 self-governing neighborhood groups, and 37 crime reporting mailboxes.

These are not just mere statistics, but also reflect the consensus and joint efforts of the entire political system and the people in protecting border security. Thanks to this decisive involvement, security and order in the area have been maintained for many years. In particular, Lao Kho 1 village has continuously maintained its "drug-free" status for five consecutive years, a gratifying result for a border area that once faced many threats from drug abuse.

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Quang Huy, Deputy Head of Phieng Khoai Commune Police, said: “The commune police have closely coordinated with the Chieng On Border Guard Post and the Commune Military Command to organize comprehensive border patrols, ensuring the safety of border markers. At the same time, we are strengthening our intelligence gathering to promptly prevent illegal entry and exit or the transportation of prohibited goods, determined to maintain security and order right at the border gate.”

Vietnam and the United States strengthen cooperation in addressing the consequences of war.VTV.vn - On June 22, General Secretary and President To Lam received Acting Secretary of the US Navy Hung Cao.

Evaluating the role of the commune police force in the past period, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phieng Khoai commune, affirmed: "The commune police force has played a very good core role in protecting border peace. Complex security and order issues, child marriage, and illegal proselytization have all decreased significantly. In addition, the commune police have also taken the lead in implementing Project 06, doing a good job advising the local government on people-to-people diplomacy, and coordinating effectively in protecting border sovereignty."

The achievements we see today are not only the result of the police force alone, but also the culmination of the unity between the Party committee, the government, functional forces, and the people. When the people trust and actively participate in maintaining security and order, each village will become a solid fortress protecting peaceful life. Amidst daily difficulties, there are police officers who silently stay in the villages and among the people. They are not only guardians of security and order but also bridges bringing the law closer to the people, and a reliable support for the people whenever they face difficulties.
