Handmade mooncakes find a new path.

Currently, the mooncake market is entering its peak season, but the handmade mooncake segment in Tay Ninh is no longer as vibrant as before. This is due to consumers' increasing concern about product origin and quality. In response to this, many homemade mooncake producers in Tay Ninh are proactively adapting and preparing new strategies to secure their place in the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival market.

Business goes hand in hand with the law.

Recently, bakeries and homemade pastry shops in the province have started selling and promoting their products on social media platforms. Instead of simply showcasing types of cakes and fillings like in previous years, these homemade bakeries have focused on promoting their BTT (Bread and Pastry Box) packaging, paying attention to everything from box design and packaging to building meaningful brand stories.

Food producers place great emphasis on providing personal protective equipment.

Furthermore, Government Decree No. 70/2025/ND-CP, issued on March 20, 2025, amending and supplementing several articles of Decree No. 123/2020/ND-CP on invoices and documents, officially takes effect from June 1, 2025. This contributes to promoting digital transformation in tax management and requires transparency in production and business. This has prompted businesses in general, and those involved in the production and sale of homemade goods in particular, to begin adapting to the market.

Businesses have begun standardizing their production processes, ensuring transparency in business operations, and complying with the Food Safety and Hygiene Law. From entirely manual baking, some establishments have invested in transitioning to semi-automatic, one-way production lines; adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations throughout the production process, etc.

Ms. Pham Thi Bich Huyen, owner of Thien Di BTT shop in Duong Minh Chau commune, said that Government Decree No. 70/2025/ND-CP, which has come into effect, has brought about many changes to the entire industry, especially for online businesses and individual households. Therefore, those in the food business must prepare themselves for targeted development. "In my opinion, businesses today, in addition to their expertise, must also equip themselves with certain legal knowledge," Ms. Huyen added.

Similarly, Ms. Huynh Kim Nhu, owner of Kim Nhu bakery in Tan Ninh ward, shared: "To standardize the production process, we invest in improving machinery to produce higher quality products. In addition, the establishment always focuses on the origin of input materials: there must be invoices, documents, and clear product declarations,... Our staff are all trained in food safety before the Mid-Autumn Festival to ensure food safety throughout the production process."

Building a brand step by step

Faced with increasing competition in the bakery market, businesses are striving to create a unique identity for their products by associating each box and individual cake with meaningful stories; elevating their products to expand and reach more customer segments.

Ms. Huynh Kim Nhu shared that this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, the shop is focusing on high-end mooncakes with fillings such as scallop and bird's nest. In terms of design, the shop has invested in packaging and boxes featuring images of famous landmarks in the province such as Ba Den Mountain, the Cao Dai Holy See in Tay Ninh , and Dau Tieng Lake. In particular, the establishment aims to develop healthy products to meet consumer needs, such as low-sugar mooncakes, mooncakes for people with diabetes, and vegetarian mooncakes.

Customers choose to buy handmade mooncakes.

Building its brand on love for its homeland, this Mid-Autumn Festival, Thien Di Bakery is offering two special and meaningful gift sets: "The Era of Rising - Radiant Vietnam" and "I Love Tay Ninh," to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, as well as to celebrate the new Tay Ninh province. These two gift sets quickly attracted the attention of customers, especially young people.

In these gift sets, Thien Di requested the workshops to exclusively engrave and design sacred national symbols and images, including: President Ho Chi Minh's quote: "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom," images of the map of Vietnam, bronze drums, the Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh, and scenic spots of Tay Ninh,... thereby conveying meaningful messages, reminding today's young generation to be grateful for the sacrifices of previous generations in winning independence and freedom for the nation. At the same time, Thien Di hopes to promote the beautiful image of the new Tay Ninh and strengthen the bond between the two provinces of Long An and the old Tay Ninh, so that together they can enter a new era."

Homemade mooncakes have been "upgraded" in quality and design, gradually meeting customer preferences. Ms. Tran Thi Hanh (residing in Tan Ninh ward) shared: "Mooncakes are becoming more diverse, with more designs and more stores selling them. Each year is different, with many new flavors to meet customer needs. Handmade mooncakes are fresh, with fewer preservatives, so they taste better. The criteria for fillings, food safety conditions, and brand reputation are guaranteed, so I feel more at ease."

With positive changes from homemade mooncake production facilities, this year's mooncake market promises to be more diverse due to competition in terms of both quality and product meaning.
