Amorim faced criticism.

Amorim received his dismissal notice on the afternoon of January 5th ( Hanoi time), just hours after he publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the Manchester United leadership following the 1-1 draw against Leeds in the 20th round of the Premier League. The 40-year-old coach's 14-month tenure ended without bringing home any trophies.

Inconsistent performance and a controversial playing style led the Manchester United board, headed by Director of Football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada, to decide to terminate his contract early.

Portuguese media have focused particularly on Amorim's unwavering commitment to the 3-4-3 formation, despite the fact that this system is unsuitable for the current squad and has consistently drawn negative reactions from fans.

In the newspaper Record , commentator Nuno Felix frankly stated that Amorim approached his first challenge abroad with "excessive rigidity and conservatism."

According to Felix, Amorim was slow to adapt to the harsh environment at a big club like Manchester United, where flexible adjustments are a daily requirement. This stubbornness cost him time, trust, and credibility, both in the dressing room and within the leadership structure.

Amorim was criticized by the domestic press.

However, Felix also emphasized that Amorim is not an isolated case. Before him, a series of coaches with different backgrounds and philosophies such as David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Erik ten Hag all failed.

The rare exception is Jose Mourinho, who still managed to help MU compete and win titles. From this perspective, the root of the problem lies in the lack of a clear football strategy, an unbalanced squad, a lack of leadership, and a management model that prioritizes commercial interests over sporting achievements.

Meanwhile, O Jogo commented that Amorim has become yet another name unable to help MU escape the "post-Sir Alex Ferguson curse." The Portuguese coach left Old Trafford with 24 wins in 63 matches and no trophies.

A stunning goal helped MU beat Newcastle. In the early hours of December 27th, Patrick Dorgu executed a beautiful one-touch volley to give MU a 1-0 victory over Newcastle in the 18th round of the Premier League.
